Driver Stopped, Asleep in Middle of Becks Run Road

And another incident from north Baldwin in these police stories from the past week.

Driver Asleep on Becks Run Road A Baldwin Borough police officer found the driver of an SUV stopped in the middle of Becks Run Road and asleep with his foot on the vehicle's brake. The incident occurred while the SUV was facing west in Baldwin's 600 block of Becks Run at around 2:49 a.m. on Thursday, according to a police report. The vehicle's engine was running, it was in gear, and its headlights were on. But the driver—Mario Joseph Germany, 24, of Cedricton Street in Pittsburgh's Carrick neighborhood—did not wake up until another police officer arrived at the scene, entered Germany's passenger's-side door, put the vehicle in park and turned off its engine. Baldwin Police Arrest Man After Crash

And another DUI arrest in these Baldwin police notes from the past week.

He Knew What Was Coming A man who crashed his vehicle into a metal pole on a grassy median near the Mifflin Road exit off of East Carson Street early on Saturday morning knew what was coming to him. Luke Benedict Royer Jr., 32, of Woodhill Drive in Munhall Borough, admitted to recently drinking alcohol after a Baldwin Borough police officer approached his crashed vehicle at around 2:45 that day in Pittsburgh's Hays neighborhood, according to a Baldwin police report. Royer was cooperative with police, even admitting that he deserved punishment, the report states. The Baldwin officer observed Royer's vehicle swerving on East Carson/River Road in north Baldwin a few minutes prior to the crash. The officer was heading north on East Carson …

Arrest for DUI, Drugs in North Baldwin

Motorist will be charged with a number of offenses.

A man is being charged with driving under the influence of both alcohol and drugs and possession of both a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia after his vehicle was pulled over on Mifflin Road in Pittsburgh's Hays neighborhood by a Baldwin Borough police officer in the early morning of Sept. 22. (UPDATE: The possession of a controlled substance charge was withdrawn on Jan. 22.) According to a police report, the man—David Alan Hitt, 24, of Homeridge Dr. in the New Homestead neighborhood—failed to dim his vehicle's high beams while driving south toward the officer on north Baldwin's stretch of East Carson Street/River Road at around 3:34 that day. REOPENED: Streets Run Road from Schuette/Willett to Hays

One of many areas that saw delays and congestion on Friday.

UPDATE (8:30 p.m.): The road has reopened. Heavy rain has led to flooding, which has caused a large part of Streets Run Road in Baldwin Borough—from Schuette Road/Willett Road to approximately the Glenwood Bridge in Pittsburgh's Hays neighborhood—to close on Friday afternoon. Crack Sealing on Glass Run & Churchview June 18-22

Also, a nearby Mt. Lebanon Boulevard project is extended.

Crews from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will perform minor crack sealing work in and around Baldwin-Whitehall from Monday, June 18, through Friday, June 22. The work includes sealing on Churchview Avenue from Glass Run Road in Baldwin Borough to Brownsville Road in Pittsburgh's Carrick neighborhood and on Glass Run itself from Churchview to Streets Run/Baldwin Road in the Hays neighborhood. The work also includes the resumption of a sealing project on Mt. Lebanon Boulevard from Castle Shannon Boulevard in Castle Shannon Borough/Mt. Lebanon to Washington Road (Route 19) in Mt. Lebanon. Lines will be painted on the bridges that carry Route 885 (Mifflin Road) over Streets Run/Baldwin Road in Pittsburgh's Hays neighborhood on Monday, June 11, weather permitting. The work will occur from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. that day, according to a press release from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 11-0. The area of detail is just south of the Glenwood Interchange near north Baldwin Borough. Motorists should expect changing traffic patterns and possible delays in that area and allow extra time when traveling. Work Coming to North Baldwin/Hays Area

Bridges over Streets Run Road will be affected.

Protective sealants will be applied on the bridges that carry Mifflin Road (Route 885) over Streets Run/Baldwin Road on the border of north Baldwin Borough and Pittsburgh's Hays neighborhood starting on Monday, May 21, according to a news release from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 11-0. Weather permitting, single-lane closures will occur on those bridges in both directions as needed on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through May 31. Restrictions will be coordinated to minimize impacts on rush hour traffic, but they are necessary for proper curing. CONTINUING: Crack Sealing on Doyle/Stilley and Glass Run/Joseph Through May 18

Minor work by PennDOT crews could cause short-term delays.

UPDATE: Project will continue from Monday, May 14, through Friday, May 18. Doyle/Stilley Road, which stretches from Baldwin Borough to Whitehall Borough, and Glass Run Road/Joseph Street, which goes from Pittsburgh's Hays neighborhood to Baldwin, will see minor crack sealing work done next week by crews from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. The crack sealing is not expected to cause long-term delays on those roads from Monday, April 16, through Friday, April 20. Two Pantsless Women Stuck on Railroad Tracks in Baldwin

And other Baldwin Borough police news from the past week.

No Pants, No Road, a Problem Two women wearing nothing but shirts were found by a Baldwin Borough police officer inside of a gray Ford Focus stuck on the railroad tracks along Streets Run Road near Route 51 at around 2:59 a.m. on Saturday, St. Patrick's Day. When the officer approached the Focus, he smelled the strong odor of alcohol, according to his report. The officer requested numerous times that the driver—Andrea M. Vennare, 23, of 233 Albany St. in Pittsburgh's Ridgemont neighborhood—get dressed so that he could put her through field-sobriety tests, but Vennare refused. Eventually, Vennare failed all field-sobriety tests and a breath-analyzer test before being arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. Vennare …

UPDATED: Litter Removal on East Carson March 19-23

That stretch of north Baldwin may see delays.

UPDATE: Litter removal will continue from March 19-23. Crews from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will be on East Carson Street this week, March 12-16, from Becks Run Road, in Baldwin Borough, all the way to the Glenwood Bridge, in Pittsburgh's Hays neighborhood, to remove litter from the roadway. Sporadic lane closures and restrictions should be expected on East Carson during the process.
