Library officials hosted a well-attended event at the South Hills Country Club.

Whitehall Public Library officials celebrated the 50th anniversary of the opening of their award-winning library with an event at the South Hills Country Club this past week. The event welcomed 168 attendees, including U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy, state Sen. Matthew H. Smith and state Rep. Erin Molchany, each of whom has a constituency that includes Whitehall Borough. The event also marked the unveiling of the Friends of the Whitehall Public Library's Library Quilt, which was made possible by donations from library patrons who gave money to have the titles of favorite books stitched to the quilt. Baldwin High School's performance of "Hairspray" has been nominated for a local Gene Kelly award this year for Best Musical, and Baldwin students …

Corbett's Transportation Proposal Is Step in Right Direction but Falls Short

'Every Pennsylvania resident needs reliable transportation, and safe, modern infrastructure is crucial to attracting jobs and investment to our region." - state Rep. Erin Molchany

On Feb. 20, I was pleased to host a hearing of the House Democratic Policy Committee at the Sheraton Station Square Hotel on the vital issue of transportation funding. Fourteen of my colleagues from around the state visited our district to hear regional leaders on the issue speak and answer questions on funding needs and the future of Pittsburgh's and the state's transportation network. I requested a hearing on this topic because every Pennsylvania resident needs reliable transportation, and safe, modern infrastructure is crucial to attracting jobs and investment to our region. Our transportation issues are statewide problems—on urban mass transit and rural routes alike—and we are in this situation because of decades of underinvestment. …

Corbett's Transportation Funding Plan 'Woefully Inadequate,' Molchany Says

State Rep. Erin Molchany, D-Allegheny, served as co-chair in a public hearing Wednesday regarding Gov. Tom Corbett's plan for transportation funding.

At the request of state Rep. Erin Molchany (D-Allegheny), members of the House Democratic Policy Committee heard from local officials, business leaders and transportation experts at a public hearing in Pittsburgh Wednesday regarding Pennsylvania’s transportation funding obstacles. Molchany served as co-chairwoman during the hearing, which analyzed the funding plan for transportation projects Gov. Tom Corbett’s introduced as part of his 2013-14 state spending plan. “Governor Corbett’s budget for transportation funding is woefully inadequate,” Molchany said in a statement released Wednesday. “For too many years, public transit has been in crisis. Our local roads and bridges are in disrepair. The governor's budget falls dramatically short of …

Pittsburgh Area Legislators React to Governor's Budget Proposals

Democrats voice concerns while Republicans lend support for Gov. Tom Corbett's 2013-14 budget.

Western Pennsylvania Democrats had some harsh words for Gov. Tom Corbett's proposed 2013-14 state budget, which he presented Tuesday, while state Republican Party Chairman Rob Gleason called the governor's plan a "balanced and responsible budget that reinvests in Pennsylvania." “The plan presented by the governor is disappointing,” said Senate Democratic Leader Jay Costa, D-Forest Hills. “It was long on politics but short on solutions.” State Rep. Erin Molchany, a newly elected Democrat serving South Hills communities said the governor’s "Band-Aid budget does little to make up for the hurt this state has felt from his deep cuts." State Rep. Robert Matzie, a Democrat representing the Sewickley area, said: “New Jersey has Chris Christie as …

Molchany Pledges Dedication, Commitment to New Role

A column by State Rep. Erin Molchany, who represents part of Whitehall Borough and all of Baldwin Township.

On Jan. 1, I took the oath of office as State Representative. It is so deeply humbling and an absolute pleasure to serve the communities of the 22nd legislative district. Kicking off the new year in our magnificent state Capitol, it was easy to make this year's resolution. It's the same promise that I made to so many of you as I campaigned over the past year. I pledge dedication to our community and a fervent commitment to the issues you have asked me to address. I will fight to champion a comprehensive transportation plan that adequately addresses our aging infrastructure and public transit; to support and reinvest in our public schools to secure our children's future; and to prioritize job creation and expanding opportunities that …

The former Baldwin-Whitehall School Board member will soon be replaced in the state Legislature by Erin Molchany.

State Rep. Martin Michael Schmotzer gave a farewell speech in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives on Tuesday as his term representing the 22nd Legislative District comes to a close on Nov. 30. VIDEO: Molchany Camp Declares Win in 22nd District PA House Race

The Democrat thanks supporters for helping her to defeat Republican Chris Cratsley.

Democrat Erin Molchany delivered a victory speech to an intimate group of supporters at Redbeard's Bar & Grill in Pittsburgh's Mount Washington neighborhood on Tuesday night. After winning her party's nomination in April for Pennsylvania's 22nd House District seat by defeating current state Rep. Martin Michael Schmotzer, Molchany had a much easier time in bettering Republican nominee Chris Cratsley in this November's general election. Just 40 minutes after polls closed in Allegheny County on Tuesday, Molchany's campaign office issued a news release declaring a win over Cratsley in the Democrat-heavy 22nd District. And about one hour later, she appeared at Redbeard's to thank her closest supporters. Watch the video above to hear part of …
