Baldwin Township Police Make Pair of Arrests

Both women are being charged with DUI.

Castle Shannon Woman Arrested A Baldwin Township police officer stopped a motorist on McNeilly Road at around 1:19 a.m. on Sunday for speeding and failing to obey a traffic light at the Sussex Avenue-McNeilly intersection, Baldwin Township police Chief Terrence P. O'Brien said. The officer reported smelling alcohol coming from the motorist—Renee Herring, 31, of Belleville Street in Castle Shannon Borough—O'Brien said, and put her through a field-sobriety test, which she failed. She was then arrested and taken to St. Clair Hospital for a blood test (results pending). Police are charging Herring with suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. Man, Woman Arrested in Baldwin Twp. on DUI Charges

Both arrests occurred on Feb. 16.

Part I Working in cooperation with the Mt. Lebanon Area DUI Task Force, a Baldwin Township police officer stopped a motorist in the 2600 block of Route 88 in Pittsburgh's Overbrook neighborhood at around 12:12 a.m. on Feb. 16 for erratic driving, Baldwin Township police Chief Terrence P. O'Brien said. Brian Daetwyler, 33, of Village Green Drive in the Heritage Hills complex of Jefferson Hills Borough, was speeding and crossing the center line in the 100 block of McNeilly Road, O'Brien said. Daetwyler displayed signs of intoxication, O'Brien said, before the officer put him through breath-analyzer and field-sobriety tests, which he failed, and took him to the Mt. I think they started doing them up in 2010 in Mt Lebanon Police Station. It saves the community money by not taking them to hospitals.   more ›

Police Planning DUI Patrols in the South Hills

Numerous police departments, including Baldwin Township's, are planning to participate this weekend.

Numerous police departments from across Pittsburgh's South Hills area, including Baldwin Township's, are planning to participate in roving DUI patrols on Friday night and early Saturday morning. Other participating police departments include ones from Bridgeville Borough, Scott Township, Heidelberg Borough, Collier Township, South Fayette Township, Mt. Lebanon, Castle Shannon Borough, Dormont Borough and Green Tree Borough. Officers from those municipalities will be on patrol looking for impaired drivers. However, they will not set up any stationary checkpoints throughout the night, police said. The effort is in conjunction with the Mt. Lebanon Area DUI Task Force and is funded through the Pennsylvania DUI Association with grants from the …

Laptop Stolen from Car on Rolling Rock Road

The device is valued at almost $1,400.

A woman from the 800 block of Rolling Rock Road in Baldwin Township has reported to police that a laptop was stolen from her vehicle sometime between 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 10 and 9 a.m. on Jan. 11. The victim said that she thought that she had locked her car prior to the theft but now believes that she didn't, Baldwin Township police Chief Terrence P. O'Brien said. The car was parked in her driveway at the time of the theft. She has valued the laptop at $1,381. ROAD RAGE UPDATE: Victims Did Not Want to Participate in Prosecution

The district attorney's office requested that the charges be withdrawn.

The withdrawal of several charges against a woman whom police say assaulted three people in a November road rage incident in Baldwin Township has raised some eyebrows. While it is typical for district magistrates to grant the withdrawal of charges based on a lack of evidence, it also often occurs that the victims and/or witnesses of crimes do not wish to participate in the accused's prosecution. Such was the case of Amanda Marie Petrelli, whom a Baldwin Township police officer drew his gun at on Nov. 13 after a traffic accident involving the Dormont Borough woman escalated into violence. Assault, Drugs Charges Dropped in Baldwin Twp. Road Rage Case

District Judge Barton withdrew most of the charges on Tuesday.

ROAD RAGE UPDATE: Victims Did Not Want to Participate in Prosecution Amanda Marie Petrelli, whom Baldwin Township police say punched two other women in the face and ran her vehicle into a pedestrian in a November road-rage incident, will not face charges for those allegations, district Magistrate David J. Barton decided on Tuesday. Barton withdrew Petrelli's charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, while her driving under the influence of alcohol charge was waived for Allegheny County Court, where she's scheduled to be formally arraigned on Feb. 6.
