William Murphy Back in Jail, Charged with 8 Baldwin Burglaries

Police arrested Murphy at a motel on Route 51 in Jefferson Hills.

William Joseph Murphy III is accused of burglarizing eight Baldwin Borough homes—and attempting to burglarize two others—leading to an arrest by Baldwin police on Thursday at a motel on Route 51 in Jefferson Hills Borough, police Chief Michael Scott said. Until recently, Murphy, 28, lived in the 600 block of Blossom Drive in Baldwin. He is accused of stealing items from the homes of four neighbors in that same block in south Baldwin—including one home twice—Scott said. The three other burglaries happened on nearby Elaine and Norma drives, and on Elderslee Road in central Baldwin. The eight burglaries for which he is being charged all occurred since October 2012, Scott said. That does not include incidents on Jan. 4 or 16 in which residents…

Suzie not everyone is blaming the mother or brother. He needs help and only he can seek it for himself. Being in jail will not solve his problem, he needs to go to rehab and to fight the demons but this is a decision that only he can make on his own.   more ›

Baldwin Man Admits to Break-in Attempt on Elaine Drive

Details emerge from Jan. 4 incident on Blossom Drive in south Baldwin.

William Joseph Murphy III has admitted to trying to burglarize a house in south Baldwin Borough, according to a criminal complaint filed at District Magistrate John N. Bova's Wallace Building office. Officers from multiple police departments detained Murphy at a Blossom Drive home on Jan. 4 as part of a burglary investigation in south Baldwin, according to Baldwin police Chief Michael Scott. The Baldwin-Whitehall Patch captured the detainment on video. The Baldwin police received a 911 call that day from a woman reporting that a suspicious male was knocking on the front door of a home in the 500 block of Elaine Drive. When there was no answer at the door, the caller advised the 911 operator that the male was now going around to the back of…

Whitehall Police Investigating Front-Porch Pranks

And an assault arrest to report in these Whitehall Borough police notes.

Dangerous Prank Whitehall Borough police went to the 100 block of Felix Drive at around 8:41 p.m. on Saturday in response to a complaint of a loud bang and smoke coming from a resident's porch there. Whitehall police Chief Donald R. Dolfi said that, when officers arrived, they found a 2-liter bottle partially filled with some type of liquid on the porch, as well as aluminum foil. The device acted as a type of homemade explosive, he said. Although nobody was injured in the incident, Dolfi said that the event, which appears to have been a prank, is very dangerous. "People could be seriously injured when a chemical reaction is involved," he said. While Whitehall police were on the scene of the Felix incident, an event occurred in nearby South…

:) That or science class. I know we learned a number of fun chemical reactions there. The problem, of course, as any kid who's messed with pyrotechnics knows, is that it's easy to make a big explosion and more difficult to make a small one.   more ›

Police Pull Gun on Woman in Baldwin Twp. Road Rage Incident

And five other stories in these township police notes.

Woman Arrested in Road Rage Incident on Dewalt Drive A Baldwin Township police officer aimed his gun at a Dormont Borough woman at around 10 p.m. on Tuesday after she punched two other women in the face and ran her vehicle into a pedestrian, township police Chief Terrence P. O'Brien said. Baldwin Township police arrived at the scene of the incident—the intersection of Dewalt and Newport drives—after the Dormont woman—Amanda Marie Petrelli, 29, of Tennessee Avenue—had already punched the other two women, O'Brien said. All three women were involved in the same traffic accident at the intersection. According to a township resident who witnessed the accident from his porch on Newport—he is the same man who was eventually struck by Petrelli's …

Attempted Theft Thwarted Again by Giant Eagle Store Management

A woman tried to leave the store without paying for a cart full of groceries, police said.

Would-be shoplifters are learning that they'll have to outrun not only local police but also store employees if they're to successfully get away with goods from the Giant Eagle in Whitehall Borough. For at least the second time in a month, a person has left or tried to leave the Caste Village grocery store without paying for items in his or her possession, Whitehall police Chief Donald R. Dolfi said. On Wednesday, that was 41-year-old Roberta Lynn Black, of 1030 Grand Ave. in Pittsburgh's Marshall-Shadeland neighborhood, Dolfi said. The store's manager confronted Black just outside of the store's exit doors after she tried to leave Caste property with a shopping cart full of items that she didn't pay for. Whitehall police officers, …

Burglary Through Garage Door in Whitehall

And four other Whitehall Borough police stories from the past week.

Burglary Through Garage Door Whitehall Borough police officers went to Carriage Drive at around 11:04 p.m. on Thursday for a report that a garage door at a home on that street was suspiciously and partially left open. Officers contacted the home's owner, who arrived shortly later, Whitehall police Chief Donald R. Dolfi said. Officers could not find forced entry anywhere to the home, but the owner reported that watches and other jewelry items valued between $3,400 and $3,500 were missing from the home. The owner is still taking an inventory of possibly stolen items. The incident is under investigation. Teenager Arrested for Assault Whitehall police officers went to the 1695 Parkline Dr. apartments building in the Wallace (Prospect) Park …

Caste Village Giant Eagle Robbery Leads Area Police on Search

A man is charged again with doing something for the second time in just over a year.

A man with a history of stealing from the Giant Eagle in Whitehall Borough's Caste Village is charged with doing the same thing again after he led police from Whitehall and Castle Shannon boroughs, and Bethel Park, on a search for him through Whitehall on Saturday. Brenton Fawcett, 37, of 353 Brookline Blvd., was arrested that day and taken to the Allegheny County Jail on charges of robbery, receiving stolen property, retail theft and defiant trespass for stealing DVDs and other merchandise from Giant Eagle at around 1:03 p.m., Whitehall police Chief Donald R. Dolfi said. (UPDATE: The robbery charge was withdrawn on Nov. 13.) Dolfi explained that the trespass charge stems from a restriction placed on Fawcett from entering that Giant Eagle …

And other Whitehall borough police stories from this past week.

Neighbors' Dispute Whitehall Borough police officers went to the 5000 block of Carlyn Drive at around 9:14 on Wednesday night for a report of a disturbance happening outside of a home there. When the officers arrived, they met with an injured man who said that an argument between him and a neighbor resulted in him being pushed and knocked down, Whitehall police Chief Donald R. Dolfi said. The victim had struck his head on something as he was falling to the ground. Crews from Medical Rescue Team South Authority arrived at the scene to treat the victim, who provided officers with the name of the other man involved in the altercation. Solicitation at Princess Lanes Leads to Harassment Charge

Man says that a woman hit him in the back of his head after he crinkled up her fundraising flier. And two other Whitehall police stories.

Not the Charitable Way A Whitehall Borough police officer went to the Princess Lanes bowling center at Caste Village at around 8:10 p.m. on Thursday for a report that a man was struck in the back of his head there, Whitehall police Chief Donald R. Dolfi said. When the officer arrived, he was greeted by the victim, who said that a woman trying to solicit money from him for a family fundraiser had struck him after he refused to participate in her fundraiser. The man said that he was approached by this same woman—Lucy Marie Husser, 54, of 5115 Union Ave. in Union Township—at Princess Lanes about one week prior with the same request and refused to participate then, as well. This week, the victim said, he crinkled up the woman's fundraising …
