William Joseph Murphy III, who has been charged with multiple counts of burglary, criminal trespassing, theft and receiving stolen property stemming from late 2012 and early 2013 incidents, is facing a non-jury trial that starts on May 16, according to an online docket sheet. The alleged south Baldwin Borough burglar remains in the Allegheny County Jail on $50,000 bail. Officers from multiple police departments detained Murphy at a Blossom Drive home on Jan. 4 as part of a burglary investigation in the area, according to Baldwin police Chief Michael Scott. A pretrial conference awaits William Joseph Murphy III, the alleged south Baldwin Borough burglar who remains in the Allegheny County Jail, according to an online docket sheet. Murphy, who has been charged with multiple counts of burglary, criminal trespassing, theft and receiving stolen property stemming from late 2012 and early 2013 incidents, will have a pretrial conference at the Allegheny County Courthouse on April 26—the result of his March 18 formal arraignment. The suspect who allegedly shut a door on Baldwin Borough police officers, leading to one officer's rifle going off and firing two shots into a police sergeant's back, remains in the Allegheny County Jail after waiving his preliminary hearing last week, according to an online docket sheet. Meantime, Baldwin Mayor Alexander R. William Scherz, 73, was a bus driver for the Baldwin-Whitehall School District.
Charges against William Scherz, 73, of Brentwood, were held for court on Monday. Scherz was a Baldwin-Whitehall School District bus driver when he was accused in February of driving to Elizabeth Township to have sex with a 15-year-old boy. Scherz faces charges of corruption of minors, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and statutory sexual assault, among others. His formal arraignment at the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas is scheduled for May 9 at 1 p.m., according to an online court document. B-W School District Superintendent Dr. Randal A. Window Smashed A Whitehall Borough resident from the 5000 block of South Passage Drive contacted police at around 7 a.m. on Feb. 26 to report that a rear window of his van had been smashed out. The incident occurred sometime after 7 the previous night while it was parked in the victim's driveway, Whitehall police Chief Donald R. Dolfi said. William Scherz, a Baldwin-Whitehall School District bus driver, is accused of driving to Elizabeth Township to have sex with a 15-year-old boy, according to a WPXI report. Scherz, 73, of Brentwood Borough, was taken to the Allegheny County Jail on charges of corruption of minors, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and statutory sexual assault, among others. He eventually made bail, was released and is scheduled to appear at District Magistrate Beth Scagline Mills' Route 51 office on Jan. 28 (UPDATE: continued to Feb. 25 and then to March 18). A Brentwood Borough woman is in the Allegheny County Jail on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, aggravated harassment by a prisoner and institutional vandalism following an arrest on Route 51 on Monday night. Jenna Rose Difrancesco, 28, of 105 Kaplan Ave., was stopped by a Whitehall Borough police officer between Stewart Avenue and Greenlee Road at around 9:10 that night for erratic driving, Whitehall police Deputy Chief Richard M. District Magistrate John N. Bova granted the withdrawal of three charges against William Joseph Murphy III at a preliminary hearing at Bova's Wallace Building office on Tuesday. Withdrawn were both charges of receiving stolen property and one charge of the illegal sale or transfer of firearms, all stemming from a Jan. 4 incident in Baldwin Borough.
