We will reveal the answer on Monday.

ANSWER: Only one person got this! It's C, 1946. - - - - - The Baldwin Historical Society brings you another trivia question that delves into our area's colorful past. Pat Lombardi and Patty Woehler, co-presidents of the society, generously write the questions and provide the pictures. Here is this week's question: Tush's Field is located off of Willett Road near Elm Leaf Park. Pictured here is Peter Hess mowing the hayfield with his two favorite horses, Queen and Frank. Hess was a farmer and a coal miner. Between him and his father, they rented the field for 100 years and only bought five acres of land to build a new house, which still stands today. B-W Trivia: What Was the Name of This Place?

We will reveal the answer on Monday.

The Baldwin-Whitehall Patch has partnered with the Baldwin Historical Society to bring you a weekly trivia question that delves into our area's colorful past. Pat Lombardi and Patty Woehler, co-presidents of the society, generously write the questions and provide the pictures. Here is this week's question: This building was a former schoolhouse—a gaunt, boxlike structure erected by a community of Roman Catholic nuns to teach the children of coal miners. It was left vacant when the local public schools were established. It was then taken over by an organization to be used as a free home for convalescent men and boys. This was in the early 1900s. The building was located on Willett Road. And while the organization is still in existence, it …

LIST: Leaders Discuss Which Roads Should Be Repaved in Baldwin Boro

And other notes from Tuesday night's Baldwin Council meeting.

Road Repair The Baldwin Borough Council is reviewing a preliminary list of 29 Baldwin streets and 30 total borough spots that are in need of some sort of road repair. The borough's 2013 budget shows $800,000 allocated for such repair (up $50,000 from 2012), but the estimated cost to repair all 30 spots discussed at Tuesday night's council agenda meeting is over $3 million, meaning that not every troubled spot can likely be corrected this year. The list includes 15 spots each in north and south Baldwin: Instead of completely repaving each of these places for long-term restoration, the borough could save money and extend the life of existing pavement by merely seal coating, or "tar-and-chipping," troubled spots, borough engineer Larry …

Two Baldwin Men Charged in Connection with DUI Incident

Also, an attempted burglary and another DUI arrest in these Baldwin Borough police notes.

Two Baldwin Men Charged in Connection with DUI Incident A Baldwin Borough police officer stopped motorist Aaron Robert Sohl, 31, of Churchview Avenue in Baldwin Borough, at around 12:54 a.m. on Thursday for failing to obey a stop sign at the intersection of Churchview and Willett Road, according to a police report. That intersection is on the border of Baldwin and Brentwood boroughs. The officer reported smelling alcohol while talking with Sohl and put him through field-sobriety and breath-analyzer tests, which he failed. He was arrested and taken to the Baldwin police station, where he twice failed additional breath-analyzer tests before being taken home and released. Police are charging Sohl with suspicion of driving under the influence …

Man Climbs Through Roof of Car After Streets Run Flood

Part of Streets Run Road to be closed until about 8:30 p.m.

Witnesses say that a man climbed through the sunroof of his car near Chapon's Greenhouses in Baldwin Borough on Thursday evening after Streets Run Road was flooded by rainfall. Streets Run Road has been closed from about a half-mile north of Chapon's to the intersection of Streets Run and Schuette/Willett roads. A Pennsylvania Department of Transportation worker said that that part of Streets Run will be closed until approximately 8:30 p.m., when crews are expected to complete the removal of mud and debris from the road. A Chapon's employee, who was still squirting mud and debris from the Chapon's parking lot as of 7:45 p.m., said that the stuck driver tried to ford a body of water that had pooled in front of the Chapon's lot but simply …

I heard on KDKA news that it is now against the law and a felony if you drive into standing water like that and need to be rescued. It is also points on your drivers license. In defense of that guy though, it might of come through like a tidal wave and he never expected it. That does happen. So we can't judge him. Jon- you are not asking a serious question, are you? Hopefully you are joking.   more ›
