Whitehall Woman Charged with Heroin Possession

Whitehall Woman Charged Police are charging Briana Wisniewski, 20, of 525 Greenlee Rd. in Whitehall Borough, with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia after officers responded to a call from the 1600 block of Parkline Drive in Whitehall's Wallace (Prospect) Park area at around 11:30 p.m. on May 9, according to Whitehall police Deputy Chief Richard M. Danko. Website Spurs Group into Breaking into Old Whitehall Country Club, Police Say

The group is accused of trying to skateboard inside of an abandoned swimming pool.

Police officers were called to the old Whitehall Country Club property along Provost Road at around 3:20 p.m. on May 1 in response to possible trespassers there, Whitehall police Deputy Chief Richard M. Danko said. When officers arrived, they reported finding a group of six men in their 20s and 30s and charged each of them with defiant trespass. "They read someplace on a website from other people that you could go to this property and skateboard in the abandoned swimming pool," Danko said. Danko said that the group took an unlocked chain off of a post near the property's entrance and pushed through a gate to gain access to the club's swimming pool area. Man Charged with Drunkenly Setting Off Frisch's Burglar Alarm

Man Sets Off Frisch's Alarm Police officers responded to a burglar alarm activated at Frisch's Restaurant in Whitehall Borough at around 3 a.m. on Sunday, Whitehall police Deputy Chief Richard M. Danko said. After investigating the incident at the popular Caste Village business, including interviewing a resident of nearby Grove Road, the officers learned that an individual had run from the restaurant area shortly after the alarm had gone off. Police tracked that individual down on nearby Weyman Road, Danko said, and identified him as Joseph Iannaccio, 28, of 332 Flowers Ave. in Pittsburgh's Hazelwood neighborhood, Danko said.  Iannaccio was in "a highly intoxicated condition," according to the deputy chief, and was taken into custody …

Giant Eagle Manager Nabs 'Gangster Squad' Thief, Police Say

The store's manager has helped to thwart theft four times since November.

Caste Village Giant Eagle Manager Phillip Scott did his best John O'Mara impression on May 1, helping to nab his fourth would-be thief since November 2012, according to Whitehall Borough police Deputy Chief Richard M. Danko. At around 12:19 p.m. that day, Whitehall police received a call from the store reporting the apprehension of a shoplifter, Danko said. Upon investigation, police learned that Carly Sarasnick, 33, of 636 Judith Dr. in Baldwin Borough, was stopped by Scott as she tried to leave the store without paying for three videodiscs in her possession, including—coincidentally enough—a copy of the 2013 movie Gangster Squad starring Sean Penn as notorious thief Mickey Cohen. Charges Lessened, Probation Sentence for Whitehall Teen in Drug Bust

Three felony counts for intent to deliver were withdrawn.

A Whitehall Borough teenager pleaded guilty to three misdemeanors but avoided three felony drug charges as the result of his April 24 non-jury trial at the Allegheny County Courthouse, according to an online docket sheet. Ryan Christopher Brooks, 18, of 3197 Bel Air Dr., pleaded guilty before Judge Anthony M. Mariani to two counts of possession of a controlled substance and one count of making repairs, selling or otherwise dealing in, using or possessing an offensive weapon. Meantime, Brooks' felony charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver were withdrawn. The guilty plea is labeled as "negotiated" on the docket sheet. Brooks was sentenced to complete one year of probation for both drug misdemeanors and three …

Whitehall AutoZone Employee Charged with Stealing from Work

AutoZone Employee Charged with Retail Theft Police officers went to the AutoZone on Route 51 in Whitehall Borough at around 11:50 a.m. on Thursday to speak with the store's loss prevention officer, according to Whitehall police Chief Donald R. Dolfi. The loss prevention officer informed police that an employee of the store—Danielle Hibbs, 36, of 2089 Plainview Ave. in Pittsburgh's Brookline neighborhood—was caught taking money from the store's register and stealing merchandise, Dolfi said. The approximate value of the cash and merchandise taken was $87. The theft occurred across numerous incidents during an unspecified period of time, but "it came to a head" on Thursday, Dolfi said. The Driveway Games A resident from the 500 block of Marylea Avenue in Whitehall Borough contacted police at around 10 a.m. on April 10 to report that his vehicle was damaged by an arrow, Whitehall police Chief Donald R. Dolfi said. The resident told police that he parked his vehicle in his driveway during the afternoon of April 9 and noticed the damage the next morning. Two arrows were found on or near his property and a circular hole was left in the right rear-quarter panel of his Jeep. The arrows were camouflaged and had the words "Whitetail Extreme" written in white ink across them. The resident did not give anyone permission to hunt or target-practice on his property, Dolfi said. Window Smashed A Whitehall Borough resident from the 5000 block of South Passage Drive contacted police at around 7 a.m. on Feb. 26 to report that a rear window of his van had been smashed out. The incident occurred sometime after 7 the previous night while it was parked in the victim's driveway, Whitehall police Chief Donald R. Dolfi said. Police checked in and around the van in an attempt to find an object that could have been used to do the damage, but nothing was found. Nothing was stolen from the van, and the victim could not think of why anyone would target him. "It appears to be an isolated incident," Dolfi said. Scam Targets Grandmother in Whitehall Borough

A Whitehall Borough resident from the Steeplechase townhomes area contacted police at around 10 a.m. on Sunday to report a scam, Whitehall police Chief Donald R. Dolfi said. The victim said that she received a call on Thursday from someone claiming to be her grandson. The supposed grandson said that he was in Brazil, where he had recently damaged a rental car, and that if his grandmother did not wire him $3,800, he would be taken to jail. "Obviously, the victim was greatly concerned for the grandson," Dolfi said, and she decided to send the money. Then, on Friday, the woman received a similar call asking for another $4,400. She did not send the money in that instance, contacting police instead, who told her that she had been victimized by …
