The group is accused of trying to skateboard inside of an abandoned swimming pool.
Police officers were called to the old Whitehall Country Club property along Provost Road at around 3:20 p.m. on May 1 in response to possible trespassers there, Whitehall police Deputy Chief Richard M. Danko said. When officers arrived, they reported finding a group of six men in their 20s and 30s and charged each of them with defiant trespass. "They read someplace on a website from other people that you could go to this property and skateboard in the abandoned swimming pool," Danko said. Danko said that the group took an unlocked chain off of a post near the property's entrance and pushed through a gate to gain access to the club's swimming pool area. The property's owner was driving by the area and saw the group. Charged were Nicholas …

The proposed new law will be on public display for two weeks. And other notes from Wednesday night's borough council meeting.
Open Fires Ordinance Drafted A new ordinance regulating open burning in Whitehall Borough has been drafted and made available for public review at the borough municipal building along Borough Park Drive. (UPDATE: The proposed ordinance is also available online.) The proposed ordinance resembles one currently in use in Hampton Township with, as Whitehall Borough Manager James E. Leventry said, "a few tweaks." For example, Hampton officials do not allow for grills, outdoor barbecues or fireplaces used strictly for cooking to be less than 10 feet from a house, structure, inhabited area, roadway, utility or property line, but Whitehall's ordinance, if passed by the Whitehall Council, would set that minimum at just 5 feet. In all other cases of…

And three other stories in these Whitehall police notes.
Theft The caretaker of the property at 3091 Provost Rd.—formerly home to the Whitehall Country Club and to Rising Sun Martial Arts—reported at around 11:30 on Thursday that three sheds on the property had been entered into and that approximately 30 feet of copper pipe was missing, Whitehall Borough police Chief Donald R. Dolfi said. Also, several fixtures from the property's restrooms had been taken. The caretaker had not been at the site in several weeks, Dolfi said. The incident is under investigation. Whitehall Man Charged Whitehall police responded to the 1600 block of Parkline Drive in the Wallace (Prospect) Park area at around 5:58 p.m. on Feb. 12 for a report of a disturbance, Dolfi said. When officers arrived at the scene, they …

Also, a resident seeks to change the zoning on a former country club property, a deposit fee for borough keys, and other remaining items from Wednesday night's meeting.

Dolfi during public comments time of the Whitehall Borough Council meeting on Wednesday night and asked borough officials if they had read a letter that he sent to them regarding fees charged against him by the borough's "incompetent" police department. Borough solicitor Irving Firman said that he had read the letter but that the man's claim hasn't been determined to have merit. The man said that he would file a lawsuit against the borough and stormed out of the council's meeting room, pausing…

Rumor is that the property will be developed shortly. Either a group of townhomes 15-18 or a few quality apartment buildings. The buildings will be smaller than the ones in Prospect Park 5 or 6 units in each building but more "high end" geared to professionals since it is on the bus line.   more ›
