Some participants find their ways to local groups after their doctors recommend walking. Others are new to their communities and are…

PHOTOS: Baldwin Manor Park Trail (Summer Edition)

The trail to Union Park is beautiful any time of the year.

Back when the Baldwin-Whitehall Patch published a weekly photo gallery of interesting and/or important images caught around our area, we published these images of the beautiful Baldwin Manor Park Trail. The photos then were taken in February 2011—the dead of winter—but on Monday, B-W Patch editor Bob Healy revisited the trail in the heat of summer to get a different perspective. Much, indeed, was different—the creek (pronounced "crick," of course) alongside the trail was dry, and there was a lot less white around—but the trail was as beautiful and relaxing as ever. The Baldwin Manor Park Trail spans the wooded area between the parking lot of the Baldwin Community United Methodist Church and Pre-School and the Manor Building, both on …

WATCH: Doggie Walk at South Park a Hit with Animal Lovers

It was a beautiful day to help raise awareness of an important cause.

You could not have asked for a better day to help raise awareness of an important cause. More than 100 walkers, both the four-legged and two-legged variety, came out to help raise awareness of myasthenia gravis at the The Myasthenia Gravis Association of Western Pennsylvania (MGAWPA)'s third annual Doggie Walk Party at South Park on Sunday, Oct. 23. The walkers enjoyed a silent auction with a great array of prizes, a doggy costume contest and plenty of pizza while helping to raise funds for the MGAWPA. There were a number of local businesses sponsoring the MGA Doggie Walk, including Woody's Dog Wash & Pet Boutique; Chick-fil-A; Dunkin' Donuts; Oolala French Quarter; United Dairy; Highmark; Hickory Dickory DOC Animal Hospital, Inc.; Susan's…

Couple Doggone Determined to Raise Awareness

Third annual MGA Doggie Walk Party coming to South Park on Sunday.

Two-and-a-half years ago on a Caribbean cruise, Arlene Weintraub's vision became blurred, and she started seeing double. She didn't know what was wrong, and for six months, neither did any of her doctors. The muscle weakness spread to her arms and her legs. "My quality of life was poor," Weintraub, of Upper St. Clair Township, said. "Sometimes, I couldn't even get out of bed." Finally, a doctor diagnosed her with myasthenia gravis—a rare autoimmune neuromuscular disorder with no cause and no cure. "I have MG, but it doesn't have me," Weintraub said. Weintraub is determined to continue to have a high quality of life with her diagnosis, which is why she and her husband, David, are working tireless hours to plan The Myasthenia Gravis …
