'The Whitehall Stripes'? #PittsburghBands

Have you checked out the #PittsburghBands hashtag on Twitter?

Some creative Pittsburgh minds have taken to Twitter, and are using the hashtag #PittsburghBands to share their ideas for Pittsburgh-themed musical acts—all spinoffs of current band names and famous Pittsburgh places. The hashtag has been trending for the past day or so, and it's continuing to pick up steam. You might recognize some of the people making suggestions. Randy Baumann of WDVE—@DVERandy to you Twitter followers—suggested some great ones, including "The Whitehall Stripes." And, Good God, who told this girl Jess Levo that she looked good in that striped disaster she was barely wearing. Someone, preferably her mom, needs to tell her that a girl that chubby with boobs that huge needs to wear something more appropriate. Really ....... Mating Cows on Route 28 'Udderly' Tie Up Traffic

The bovine spectacle occurs just days after motorists spotted a pig on the Parkway West.

In the beginning ... there was the Pig on the Parkway. Now, there are cows "procreating," shall we say, on Route 28. It's been one heckuva week around the 'Burgh. On Friday morning, motorists got a spectacle of the bovine variety when a cow and a bull—oblivious to the highway traffic—decided to do the wild thing in a construction zone on Route 28. Pennsylvania State police dealt with traffic congestion caused by the amorous pair "having relations in the road" at the intersection of Routes 28/66 and Route 85 in Rayburn Township, near Kittanning, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. Mark O'Neil, a spokesman for the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau near Harrisburg, told WTAE that it was his understanding that the cow and bull may have been having "…

Second Annual Polar Plunge Makes a Big Splash in Pittsburgh

Special Olympics fundraiser doubles in size, donations.

Though it’s only the second year that teams from the Pittsburgh area have braved the cold waters of the Ohio River for the Special Olympics Polar Plunge, the event has managed to double in attendance, donations and perhaps even enthusiasm. Though the water was reported to be 39 degrees, the sun shone brightly over Heinz Field on Sunday. “You couldn’t have asked for a prettier day,” said Sandra Bradshaw, of Bethel Park. Crowds gathered early at the stadium in anticipation of the plunge that began at noon. Of those attending, about 1,300 were on teams that jumped into the Ohio River from the Heinz Field boat launch to raise money for the Special Olympics. By the week of the event, those teams had raised about $250,000. Some estimates …
