Former Major League Baseball all-star Sean Casey, often known as "The Mayor," has used his connections to bring one of the country's top baseball camps to the South Hills of Pittsburgh. "It's going to be great," Casey told Patch. "It's something I've been wanting to do for years." Casey teamed up with his friends Billy and Cal Ripken to create Sean Casey's Champions Baseball Camp for the southwestern Pennsylvania area. Casey will be an instructor at the three-day camp along with four other men with impressive baseball résumés. The suspect allegedly told a Castle Shannon firefighter that he had bomb materials in his briefcase.
The elderly man accused of causing the evacuation of South Hills Village Mall last month was in tears apologizing to the judge and thanking Bethel Park police for treating him well at the end of his preliminary hearing on Monday. District Judge Robert Wyda continued the hearing for Frank Zahler until July 1 so that behavioral health specialists could help Zahler discover the underlying cause of why he made the "callous and stupid" remarks on April 21, just days after the Boston Marathon tragedy. "What you said was clearly wrong," Wyda told Zahler. "We need to get things mentally and emotionally under control. "You need to continue to work with these people (health specialists) to help you help yourself." Zahler was handcuffed in the middle…

About this sponsorship: In honor of the 60th anniversary of Sir Edmund Hillary's historic ascent of Mount Everest, Patch and Grape-Nuts are teaming up to highlight those who inspire people around them to climb their own mountains. This story was originally posted on the ChartiersValley Patch. Facing the Challenge Melissa Rohm and her husband, David, both avid kayakers, got tired of picking litter out of the waterways that they love. So, they founded the nonprofit organization Paddle Without Pollution to make a difference. Finding the Inspiration "In the summer of 2011, we launched our kayaks on the South Side downtown just for kicks and thought we'd paddle to Heinz Field and come back," Melissa said. "We didn't get very far when we started…

Bethel Park police charged Frank Zahler, 70, with three felonies on Sunday.
Bethel Park police have charged a Castle Shannon Borough man with making terroristic threats, threatening to use a weapon of mass destruction and causing or risking a catastrophe following a bomb threat at South Hills Village Mall on Sunday. All of the charges against Frank Zahler, 70, are felonies. Zahler, who is accused of making a bomb threat at Barnes & Noble Booksellers at South Hills Village on Sunday night, blames his arrest on "hoity, toity kids," according to The Associated Press. Police say that Zahler asked some other customers at Barnes & Noble to watch his briefcase and joked that it contained some explosives relating to the Boston Marathon. There will also be an aquatics center at the new YMCA with an indoor recreation pool and a six-lane pool, as well as possibly an outdoor pool.
