Alleged South Baldwin Burglar Will Start Non-Jury Trial May 16

William Murphy III remains in jail and charged with an array of offenses.

William Joseph Murphy III, who has been charged with multiple counts of burglary, criminal trespassing, theft and receiving stolen property stemming from late 2012 and early 2013 incidents, is facing a non-jury trial that starts on May 16, according to an online docket sheet. The alleged south Baldwin Borough burglar remains in the Allegheny County Jail on $50,000 bail.  Officers from multiple police departments detained Murphy at a Blossom Drive home on Jan. 4 as part of a burglary investigation in the area, according to Baldwin police Chief Michael Scott. Baldwin's William Murphy III to Have Pretrial Conference This Month

The alleged south Baldwin burglar remains in jail and charged with an array of offenses.

A pretrial conference awaits William Joseph Murphy III, the alleged south Baldwin Borough burglar who remains in the Allegheny County Jail, according to an online docket sheet. Murphy, who has been charged with multiple counts of burglary, criminal trespassing, theft and receiving stolen property stemming from late 2012 and early 2013 incidents, will have a pretrial conference at the Allegheny County Courthouse on April 26—the result of his March 18 formal arraignment. Officers from multiple police departments detained Murphy at a Blossom Drive home on Jan. 4 as part of a burglary investigation in the area, according to Baldwin police Chief Michael Scott. Baldwin Man Pleads Guilty to Retirement Home Burglaries

Steven Kowalski was sentenced to 3-to-6 years in prison after stealing $150,000 worth of items from Providence Point residents in 2011.

The Providence Point security guard accused of stealing $150,000 worth of items from residents in 2011 pleaded guilty last week. Steven Kowalski, 49, of 681 Elaine Dr. in Baldwin Borough, pleaded guilty on Feb. 28 to 16 counts of felony burglary charges and nine charges of receiving stolen property. He was sentenced to 3-to-6 years in prison and faces another 10 years of probation. Kowalski was accused of burglarizing numerous apartments in the Scott Township retirement home and taking jewelry, fine silverware and plate settings. The thefts began in late October 2011 and ramped up in early December when residents reported seven thefts in 10 days. Theft at Former Whitehall Country Club Site

Theft The caretaker of the property at 3091 Provost Rd.—formerly home to the Whitehall Country Club and to Rising Sun Martial Arts—reported at around 11:30 on Thursday that three sheds on the property had been entered into and that approximately 30 feet of copper pipe was missing, Whitehall Borough police Chief Donald R. Dolfi said. Also, several fixtures from the property's restrooms had been taken. The caretaker had not been at the site in several weeks, Dolfi said. The incident is under investigation. How sad that there is so much turmoil in the Whitehall Place/Prospect Park apartments. It used to be a pretty nice place to rent. The management company running those apartments has experienced frequent change, though, and the rules of occupancy are not always enforced which probably causes strife amongst tenants; strife that the Whitehall Police must then attempt to settle.   more ›

Several felony theft charges have been dropped against Matthew Jankowski.

UPDATE: Jankowski will have a non-jury trial at the Allegheny County Courthouse starting on March 5 (continued to May 1).  ...  Several charges have been dropped against a mechanic accused of ripping off the Collier Township auto repair shop where he worked. Becks Run Firemen Will Face Non-Jury Trial

Len Novak and Stephen Bonetti are charged with misusing approximately $25K from the Pennsylvania firemen's relief fund.

A pretrial conference on Friday for Leonard "Len" Novak and Stephen Bonetti has resulted in a non-jury trial for the two men. The trial is scheduled to begin on April 22 at the Allegheny County Courthouse. In August, the Allegheny County District Attorney's Office charged Novak and Bonetti, chief and deputy chief, respectively, of the Becks Run Volunteer Fire Department in north Baldwin Borough, with misusing approximately $25,000 from the Pennsylvania firemen's relief fund over an approximately five-year period. According to an affidavit, investigators believe that Novak and Bonetti misappropriated the money by using it instead for personal expenses, including the cashing of checks at C.J. Chugs bar on Custer Avenue and Dean's Beer …

Baldwin Man Arrested at Sunoco/APlus on Route 51 in Whitehall

Public Drunkenness Charge After Police Claim Disobedience A Whitehall Borough police officer on patrol stopped at the Sunoco/APlus gas station and convenience store along Route 51 at around 12:53 a.m. on Friday. When the officer walked into the store, he observed a man arguing with a clerk in what appeared to be an intoxicated state, Whitehall police Deputy Chief Richard M. Danko said. The officer advised the man—John Mallon Kearns, 21, of 541 Elaine Dr. in Baldwin Borough—not to get into his car in his current condition and drive away, but Kearns responded to the officer with vulgarity and dismissiveness, Danko said, and tried to get into his car anyway. Theft from Vehicle Whitehall Borough police received a call from a resident of the 3200 block of Longwood Drive on Friday. The resident reported that, sometime during Thursday night or Friday morning, somebody went into his unlocked vehicle while it was parked in his driveway and removed 15-20 $1 bills and some personal keys, Whitehall police Deputy Chief Richard M. Danko said. The theft is under investigation. There have been numerous theft-from-vehicle cases reported recently in Whitehall and Baldwin boroughs. Some Murphy Charges Withdrawn; Most Held for County Court

William Murphy remains charged with an array of south Baldwin crimes.

District Magistrate John N. Bova granted the withdrawal of three charges against William Joseph Murphy III at a preliminary hearing at Bova's Wallace Building office on Tuesday. Withdrawn were both charges of receiving stolen property and one charge of the illegal sale or transfer of firearms, all stemming from a Jan. 4 incident in Baldwin Borough. But also from that incident, one charge each of burglary and trespassing have been waived for Allegheny County Court, where Murphy is scheduled to appear for a formal arraignment on March 18. Likewise, one charge each of trespassing and burglary from a Jan. 16 incident in Baldwin have been waived for county court on March 18.
