With Small Business Saturday here on Nov. 24, we're starting this conversation: If you could open any small business in Baldwin Borough, Whitehall Borough or Baldwin Township, what would it be and why? If you have a black belt in Black Friday shopping, listen up: Area big-box retailers are gearing up to dazzle bargain hunters even earlier this year—starting on Thanksgiving Day! Last week, Wal-Mart announced that it would open its doors at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 22, and offer holiday doorbusters while supplies last. These include deals on TVs, iPads, an electric scooter for $79 and a steam mop for $39. (There's a Wal-Mart Supercenter on Century Drive in West Mifflin Borough.) Small Business Saturday is Nov. 24 this year, two days after Thanksgiving. It is a day for everyone to support the small businesses that their community thrives on. American Express founded the day in 2010 to help small businesses get exposure during the holiday season, when they might otherwise be overlooked. I would like to open a place called the “Barter Barn" in the 2,000 SF vacant space in the Bottom Dollar shopping center. This store will be open to the public where people could come to trade various things with each other…….sounds like a pawn shop, you say….NAY!
