Fights Along Curry Road Cap Youth Football Banquet

The incident occurred on Saturday night at Salvatore's in south Baldwin Borough.

Baldwin Borough police went to the Curry Commons shopping plaza in south Baldwin at around 10:33 p.m. on Saturday for a report of multiple fights and a driver suspected by police of being intoxicated leaving the plaza's parking lot with children. The incident took place after a banquet for Thomas Jefferson Youth Football at Salvatore's of Little Giant World of Catering. According to a police report of the incident, multiple witnesses said that they saw Gregory M. I was there. In fact, I agree that no one should have been drinking. I don't believe that people should drink around kids, as my own personal value system. That is why I stated that in a previous comment. All I was saying is I know that the fights were protecting the children and in my eyes that doesn't make them idiots. It makes me grateful that there are still people that would put themselves …   more ›

Visions for Vacancies: What Could Fill a Need at Curry Road Commons?

Spaces are available for lease.

It wasn't too long ago that this writer would frequent the Curry Commons shopping center in Baldwin Borough for a hoagie from Mariana's Pizza or a carton of iced tea from the corner mini-mart. Man, what was the name of that place? Haf-Mart? In any event, those stores are long gone, and with them has come vacancies along Curry Road. But Burns & Scalo Real Estate Services has those properties available for lease, and the annual rent, according to the Burns & Scalo website, is negotiable. Currently occupying space at Curry Commons are places like Salvatore's (banquet hall), South Hills Embroidery (apparel and design shop) and McCoy's Pub (bar/restaurant), among others. Across the street is Legacy Lanes (bowling) and a couple of auto repair …

School Board Candidates Debate a One-Sided Affair

No members of the "Residents for Lower Taxes and Better Education" committee appeared at the PTA-organized debate.

The Baldwin-Whitehall Council of PTA was hoping for a big turnout at its Baldwin-Whitehall School Board candidates debate on Wednesday night. Unfortunately for the PTA, the candidates themselves didn’t turn out … mostly. Five of the nine remaining candidates for school board seats in Baldwin-Whitehall stayed away from the PTA’s debate at Salvatore’s in Baldwin Borough, which got under way at exactly 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday with opening remarks by Fred Vella, the PTA member who led the committee that organized the debate. Originally, five school board candidates told the PTA that they were coming, but Larry Pantuso backed out at 6:30 p.m. in an email to Vella and fellow PTA member Debbie Clinton. Pantuso cited “a personal matter” as his …

I personally like the idea of the GPS systems being installed on the buses and would also like to see televised board meetings. We need to have more ways of communicating with the board and being involved. The more parents and residents that are involved the better our district will be.   more ›
