Severe Thunderstorm Watch Expires for Baldwin and Whitehall

The watch expired early.

Update: The watch has expired. A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for southwestern Pennsylvania, including Baldwin Borough, Whitehall Borough and Baldwin Township. The watch remains in effect through 10 p.m. on Wednesday, according to representatives from the National Weather Service, which say that some storms could be severe with damaging winds. The chance of showers and thunderstorms is expected mainly after 5 p.m. and before midnight. The primary threat would be from damaging wind gusts.

There is a small chance that thunderstorms may become severe on Wednesday afternoon in Baldwin Borough, Baldwin Township and Whitehall Borough, according to a hazardous outlook issued by the National Weather Service in Moon Township. We had a few brief light showers in the morning hours, after that it clouded up later and of course the wind was definitely strong yesterday, but nothing as severe as these predictions say. I believe they always err on the side of caution, no one really complains much if the weather turns out to be BETTER than the prediction, but they get all upset if it's WORSE than what was expected.   more ›

National Weather Service Issues Freeze Warning for Baldwin-Whitehall

Unprotected plants will be damaged.

Baldwin Borough, Baldwin Township and Whitehall Borough and their surrounding areas are under a freeze warning from 1 to 8 a.m. on Tuesday. The National Weather Service predicts that temperatures may dip into the 20s overnight. Meteorologists warn that unprotected outdoor plants will likely be damaged or killed, so cover your in-ground plants and bring potted plants indoors. Freeze Warning Issued for Baldwin, Whitehall Monday Morning

Call it winter's last gasp. The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for the Baldwin-Whitehall area for Monday morning. The warning goes into effect at 1 a.m. and lasts until 9 a.m. The temperature is expected to dip into the 20s. A freeze watch also remains in effect from late Monday night through Tuesday morning. FORECAST: Weather Service Warns of Freezing Rain, Icy Roads

A winter weather advisory has been issued for our area.

Expect freezing rain and ice accumulations of about a tenth of an inch on Friday in the Pittsburgh area. That's the word from the National Weather Service, which issued a winter weather advisory that is in effect on Friday from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. The freezing rain is expected to begin between 6 and 8 a.m. and end between 1 and 3 p.m. The weather service warns of hazardous travel conditions because of ice-covered roads. The river at The Point is forecast to rise above 18 feet by Thursday evening, which will flood the Monongahela River Parking Wharf.
