Provost Road Closure Expected to End This Week

The gas line work is part of the Routes 51-88 realignment project.

Gas line work has shut down Provost Road in Whitehall Borough for about a week, but Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 11-0 safety press officer Steve Cowan said that the work is expected to be completed by the end of this week. At that time, the closure on Provost will be lifted, Cowan said. The gas line work is part of the Routes 51-88 realignment project, Cowan said, and soon, the work will shift to an area along Route 51 from Stewart Avenue to Route 88. However, that gas work is not expected to affect traffic. Read about other roadwork in and around Baldwin-Whitehall here. Join Patch for more community news or join us on Facebook and Twitter.

Website Spurs Group into Breaking into Old Whitehall Country Club, Police Say

The group is accused of trying to skateboard inside of an abandoned swimming pool.

Police officers were called to the old Whitehall Country Club property along Provost Road at around 3:20 p.m. on May 1 in response to possible trespassers there, Whitehall police Deputy Chief Richard M. Danko said. When officers arrived, they reported finding a group of six men in their 20s and 30s and charged each of them with defiant trespass. "They read someplace on a website from other people that you could go to this property and skateboard in the abandoned swimming pool," Danko said. Danko said that the group took an unlocked chain off of a post near the property's entrance and pushed through a gate to gain access to the club's swimming pool area. The property's owner was driving by the area and saw the group. Charged were Nicholas …

Rumor is that the property will be developed shortly. Either a group of townhomes 15-18 or a few quality apartment buildings. The buildings will be smaller than the ones in Prospect Park 5 or 6 units in each building but more "high end" geared to professionals since it is on the bus line.   more ›

Two Vehicles Damaged in Whitehall, One by Arrow

Also, a defiant trespass charge, and police Chief Dolfi warns of identity theft.

The Driveway Games A resident from the 500 block of Marylea Avenue in Whitehall Borough contacted police at around 10 a.m. on April 10 to report that his vehicle was damaged by an arrow, Whitehall police Chief Donald R. Dolfi said. The resident told police that he parked his vehicle in his driveway during the afternoon of April 9 and noticed the damage the next morning. Two arrows were found on or near his property and a circular hole was left in the right rear-quarter panel of his Jeep. The arrows were camouflaged and had the words "Whitetail Extreme" written in white ink across them. The resident did not give anyone permission to hunt or target-practice on his property, Dolfi said. The chief did not rule out that a neighbor might have …

'Emmy' Has Been Found

She had been missing since Tuesday afternoon.

UPDATE (Friday, 2:25 p.m.): Emmy has been found.  ... The owners of a dog recently rescued from a shelter tell Patch that the dog ran away from her new home in Whitehall Borough on the border of Bethel Park and south Baldwin Borough at around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday and that the dog is still missing as of early Friday. The dog's name is "Emmy," but because she was in a shelter for quite some time, she is shy and does not know her name very well. Some reports have Emmy as recently being seen in the areas of Provost and Weyman roads in Whitehall and across Route 88 in Castle Shannon Borough toward Wabash Avenue and Killarney Drive (near Baldwin Township). Other reports put Emmy in the area of Dormont Borough and Pittsburgh's Brookline …

20 Year Resident of Baldwin/Whitehall

1:35 pm on Wednesday, February 20, 2013

How sad that there is so much turmoil in the Whitehall Place/Prospect Park apartments. It used to be a pretty nice place to rent. The management company running those apartments has experienced frequent change, though, and the rules of occupancy are not always enforced which probably causes strife amongst tenants; strife that the Whitehall Police must then attempt to settle.   more ›
