Volunteers raise funds for area development by jumping into the Mon' River as part of the annual Pittsburgh Polar Plunge.
Hundreds of Pittsburghers successively broke the world's 3-meter doggypaddle record on New Year's Day after braving 36-degree temperatures to jump into the Monongahela River. And nearly 30 of those record-breakers were community leaders and volunteers from Brentwood, Baldwin and Whitehall boroughs. The Brentwood-Baldwin-Whitehall folks, headed by John F. Take part in a great cause on New Year's Day.
If you can think of a better way to support development projects in Brentwood, Baldwin and Whitehall boroughs, please let us know. But for now, we're jumping into the Mon'. Crowds gathered early at the stadium in anticipation of the plunge that began at noon. Of those attending, about 1,300 were on teams that jumped into the Ohio River from the Heinz Field boat launch to raise money for the Special Olympics. By the week of the event, those teams had raised about $250,000. Some estimates …
