The brothers are accused of running a marijuana operation, according to reports.
Two California University of Pennsylvania ice hockey players were arrested in a drug bust on Tuesday, according to WPXI. Steve Powell and his brother Jesse, reportedly brothers from Baldwin, are accused of having marijuana shipped to their 2nd Street house in Washington County from the state of California and then selling it. The brothers both played ice hockey for Baldwin High School. Jesse was the team's leading scorer during the 2011-12 season when Baldwin won a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League section title. He also helped a Baldwin team to win an Amateur Athletic Union state championship in roller hockey. Police seized at least seven pounds of marijuana and various drug paraphernalia, according to the report. A university …

The postseason starts at 4:30 p.m. this Sunday.
UPDATE: The Highlanders' Kenny Dee scored first, but Baldwin lost, 5-1, to end its season. Baldwin High School's varsity team stands four wins from a state championship, but the first one must come against Greensburg Salem High School in the opening round of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League (PIHL)'s Chiefs Cup playoffs this Sunday afternoon. Baldwin (11-8-1) takes on the higher-seeded Golden Lions (15-4-1) on Sunday at the Kirk S. Nevin Arena in Greensburg at 4:30. The Lions are the No. 3 seed out of the eight schools that qualified for the Chiefs Cup playoffs. The Highlanders are No. 6. "We're excited," said Joe Powell, Baldwin's first-year head coach and a 2005 Baldwin High grad. "We feel confident playing Greensburg. When …

The sophomore received over 450 Facebook votes.
Baldwin High School's sophomore forward Brian Dee scored four straight goals, including a natural hat trick to open the third period, during Baldwin's 9-2 win over Altoona Area High School on Feb. 1. The feat earned Dee the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League (PIHL)'s Player of the Week award, as revealed on TribLIVE Radio on Wednesday. Public voting for the award—done on the PIHL's Facebook page—resulted in over 450 votes for Dee. He beat out 14 other players for the award. Dee has notched 15 goals and 26 points in just 10 games this season for a 10-5-1 Baldwin team that is two points behind Greensburg Salem and Keystone Oaks high schools for first place in the PIHL Open Class' Section 4. Baldwin has four games still to play this …

Baldwin High School's varsity defenseman Max Milan scored a shorthanded goal with 3 minutes, 22 seconds left in the third period to narrow Indiana Area High School's lead to 3-2 in the teams' outdoor ice hockey game at Penguins Pond at Highmark Stadium on Monday. But Indiana's forward Camden Lydick put the Highlanders away with an empty-net goal with four seconds left, snapping Baldwin's four-game unbeaten streak with a 4-2 defeat. The Baldwin game was the first of a PIHL tripleheader at Penguins Pond on Monday, with players and fans enjoying the sights of Pittsburgh's …

The game (FREE ADMISSION) will be held in Station Square's new Penguins Pond at Highmark Stadium at 5 p.m.
Monday's forecast calls for a high of 33 degrees and little-to-no chance of snow, which sounds pretty much like perfect conditions for an outdoor ice hockey game. And it just so happens that Baldwin High School will play Indiana Area High School that day at Station Square's new Penguins Pond at Highmark Stadium. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 5 p.m., and admission for this special event is FREE. The outdoor game will count in the standings for both Indiana and Baldwin, which compete in the PIHL's Open Class. Before a Friday night game against Keystone Oaks High School, Baldwin is undefeated in its past three contests by a combined 27-5 score and is 6-2-1 overall, good for second place in Section 4. Indiana has been even hotter, …

Baldwin plays Indiana in the second round on Tuesday night.
UPDATE: Indiana defeated Baldwin, 5-3, on Tuesday night to eliminate Baldwin from the Open Cup playoffs. Don't expect Baldwin to apologize for this one. Not after 1-19-0. That was Baldwin High School's varsity ice hockey record for the 2010-11 season. And this season, the Highlanders are 16-4-1, section champions and three wins from a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League (PIHL) title. Baldwin—competing in the PIHL's AAA, or highest, classification a year ago—was, it suffices to say, not able to compete. Against a more level playing field this year, the Highlanders aren't just competing; they're thriving. Baldwin's fifth-year Head Coach Kevin Becker acknowledges that his team's record last season was a factor in petitioning the PIHL …

Soukup, an assistant captain, is the first female player in program history and has helped to lead the Highlanders to winning ways.
One of the best ice hockey players in Baldwin-Whitehall skates like a girl. Tara Soukup, a 17-year-old senior defense(wo)man from Whitehall Borough, looks the part, too, with a long ponytail flailing out of the back of her helmet. But as Ligonier Valley High School and at least five other teams have learned this season, Tara and the Baldwin High School Highlanders should not be taken lightly. Baldwin trounced Ligonier Valley (3-7-0) to the tune of 5-1 on Thursday night at the Ice Castle Arena in Castle Shannon Borough—Baldwin's home rink. Soukup took some hits and dished out a few of her own that night, not seeming to mind in the least. The second-year varsity player has just enjoyed winning this season, something that was a rarity during …
