ROAD RAGE UPDATE: Victims Did Not Want to Participate in Prosecution

The district attorney's office requested that the charges be withdrawn.

The withdrawal of several charges against a woman whom police say assaulted three people in a November road rage incident in Baldwin Township has raised some eyebrows. While it is typical for district magistrates to grant the withdrawal of charges based on a lack of evidence, it also often occurs that the victims and/or witnesses of crimes do not wish to participate in the accused's prosecution. Such was the case of Amanda Marie Petrelli, whom a Baldwin Township police officer drew his gun at on Nov. 13 after a traffic accident involving the Dormont Borough woman escalated into violence. According to Baldwin Township police Chief Terrence P. O'Brien, Petrelli, 29, of Tennessee Avenue, punched two other women in the face and ran her vehicle…

Assault, Drugs Charges Dropped in Baldwin Twp. Road Rage Case

District Judge Barton withdrew most of the charges on Tuesday.

ROAD RAGE UPDATE: Victims Did Not Want to Participate in Prosecution Amanda Marie Petrelli, whom Baldwin Township police say punched two other women in the face and ran her vehicle into a pedestrian in a November road-rage incident, will not face charges for those allegations, district Magistrate David J. Barton decided on Tuesday. Barton withdrew Petrelli's charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, while her driving under the influence of alcohol charge was waived for Allegheny County Court, where she's scheduled to be formally arraigned on Feb. 6. (UPDATE: Petrelli will face her DUI charge at a pretrial conference at the…

Police Pull Gun on Woman in Baldwin Twp. Road Rage Incident

And five other stories in these township police notes.

Woman Arrested in Road Rage Incident on Dewalt Drive A Baldwin Township police officer aimed his gun at a Dormont Borough woman at around 10 p.m. on Tuesday after she punched two other women in the face and ran her vehicle into a pedestrian, township police Chief Terrence P. O'Brien said. Baldwin Township police arrived at the scene of the incident—the intersection of Dewalt and Newport drives—after the Dormont woman—Amanda Marie Petrelli, 29, of Tennessee Avenue—had already punched the other two women, O'Brien said. All three women were involved in the same traffic accident at the intersection. According to a township resident who witnessed the accident from his porch on Newport—he is the same man who was eventually struck by Petrelli's …

Young Scholars Charter School Plans to Add Students

The school's officials are applying for a revision of its conditional building use in Baldwin Township so as to increase enrollment.

Officials from the Young Scholars of Western Pennsylvania Charter School are having no trouble finding students. In fact, children are on a waiting list to gain admission to the public school found on Newport Drive in Baldwin Township. But whether or not the school's building will legally be able to hold all of those kids is another matter. On Tuesday night, Young Scholars President Dr. Melih Demirkan and CEO Alpaslan Ozdogan appeared before the Baldwin Township Planning Commission and Board of Commissioners to officially apply for a revision of the school's conditional use application in the township. Demirkan said that officials at Young Scholars, which has a current enrollment of just fewer than 180 students, want to add 40 more …

My family moved to Pittsburgh 2 years ago from Florida and placed our children in a non Charter Public School. The level of education my children received was alarming. Not one to stand by and complain with no action, I volunteered my time to help make the school better to no avail. I was laid off of work and decided that was a blessing in disguise as I could now home school my children vs. …   more ›
