The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children lists her as an endangered runaway.
Stefanie C. Mills has been missing from her home in Pittsburgh since March 7, 2002. At the time of her disappearance, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children considered her an endangered runaway. Today, she would be 26 years old. Mills, who goes by the nickname "Stef," is described as 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighed 110 pounds when she went missing a decade ago. She has black hair, brown eyes, pierced ears and a scar on her right forearm. At the time of her disappearance, authorities felt that she might travel to the Colorado Springs, CO, area. Anyone with information regarding Mills' case should contact the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children at 1-800-843-5678 (1-800-THE-LOST) or the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police …

The missing man was from Waynesburg but worked on a river boat owned by Tri-River Fleeting in Pittsburgh.
Robert Elmer Allison of Waynesburg, Greene County, worked on a river boat owned by Tri-River Fleeting, which is currently listed on West Carson Street in Pittsburgh. Allison reportedly left work on Dec. 21, 1994, and was headed for a bar in the western end of Pittsburgh. All of his belongings were found on the boat, and he has not been seen since. Sources that list his disappearance say that he was last seen "leaving Tri-River Fleeting in Bethel Park near Pittsburgh," but it is questionable as to why a river business is listed in Bethel Park. Allison was 42 years old at the time of his disappearance. He is described as being a white male with brown eyes, brown hair and a fair complexion. He is about 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs around …

The Etna woman was last seen in Wilkins Township.
Last year, just about a week before Christmas, Joann Angel of Etna Borough visited a relative's home in Wilkins Township. And that day—Saturday, Dec. 17—was the last time that anyone heard from Angel. Though, she may have been spotted a few days later—on Wednesday, Dec. 21—at a gas station along Route 30 in the North Versailles Township/North Huntingdon Township area. Angel was last seen driving a dark blue 2006 Chrysler Sebring with a black convertible top and the PA license plate number of HMW-8034. In February, Angel's family offered a $1,000 reward for information regarding her whereabouts, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Angel is described as being 52 years old, 5 feet 3 inches tall and 115 pounds with a thin build. She has …

He's been missing from Pittsburgh since March 1993; though, he was reported in New York City and possibly San Francisco a few weeks after he disappeared.
Pittsburgh's Oakland area is teeming with young people on any given day as students from Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Pittsburgh and Carlow University cross back and forth between traffic going to and from their classes. Andrew Karis was a student at Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh in 1993 when he disappeared on a March day. Karis was last seen on March 1. Then, suddenly, he was missing from among those crowds of students. Also known by the nicknames Andy, Drew and Sparky, he was last seen on campus on March 1, that year. When he was reported missing, authorities tracked his credit card and telephone records and determined that he might have purchased a Greyhound bus ticket to New York City. Karis was 19 years old at the …

The mother said that her daughter had been abducted on the South Side, but later, the mother's boyfriend confessed to burying the toddler in Brookline.
The image of a little girl on a grocery shopping trip with her mother—then, suddenly, gone ... That's what many folks imagined in March of 1982, when Melody Childs Thomas told police that her daughter, Nicole Lynn Bryner, 3, had been abducted from a shopping cart at the Giant Eagle supermarket on the South Side of Pittsburgh. Though there were extensive searches, no trace of Nicole was ever found. Then, in 1986, Timothy Widman, Childs Thomas' boyfriend at the time, allegedly confessed that he had punched Bryner, accidentally killing her. He told police that he and Childs Thomas buried the body in a wooded area along Timberland Avenue in Pittsburgh's Brookline neighborhood. Police searched unsuccessfully for the body. Without it, …

Do you know where any of these endangered runaways are today?
In this day of Facebook and Twitter, it's almost inconceivable that missing people cannot eventually be found. But just this year, four young women from the greater Pittsburgh area have gone missing and are listed as endangered runaways. The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children is featuring their cases in hopes of bringing them home. Maybe you know them or where they are. Please share this story on Facebook and Twitter, too, so that more people are watching for them. China Aaliyah Brown Brown, 15, has been missing since July 11 from Pittsburgh. She might be in the company of an adult male and traveling to South Carolina. Brown is described as black, 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing 132 pounds and having black hair and brown eyes…

This Blair County girl disappeared as she walked to her school in 1965.
Note: Patch's unsolved cases/missing persons series generally features cases from southwestern Pennsylvania. But on a trip this summer, I passed right by the small town of Tyrone Borough, just north of Altoona. Tyrone, to me, has always meant Kathy Shea. Shea's face, which appeared in newspapers and on TV at the time of her 1965 disappearance, has haunted me since I was a child because she was just a few years younger than I was. As I looked over at Tyrone from the new highway, I knew I had to share her story. It's a tale that's been told too many times: A young girl on her way to or from school vanishes into thin air. And that is the story of Kathleen Ann Shea of Tyrone, who was 6 years old when she disappeared on March 18, 1965. She was …

Seneca Valley High School senior disappeared in 1981 after leaving work to buy cold medicine.
Michele Reidenbach smiled for the camera as she posed for her senior pictures on Sept. 22, 1981. A senior at Seneca Valley High School in Jackson Township, Butler County, Michele had saved up $100—tucked in a drawer at home—to pay for her class ring. The 16-year-old from Evans City Borough, like other seniors, had an exciting, final year of high school ahead. After school that day, she went to her part-time job at Mel-Den TV and Appliance, a store at 240 South Main St. in Zelienople Borough, where she addressed envelopes and wrote advertisements for the store's owners. At 4 p.m., she left her job to walk to a Rite-Aid located a half-block away to buy some cold medicine. A clerk at the store confirmed that she purchased the medicine and …

In 1991, the 28-year-old returned from a date, went back out and was never seen again.
Terry Slaugenhoupt, 28, came home from a date to the East Liberty apartments vicinity of the 1400 block of North St. Clair Street that she shared with a roommate. There are two versions of what happened next. One is that she got a phone call and told her roommate that she was going out again. The other is that she told the roommate that she was going out to make a phone call. No one knows who the call was to or from or where she was headed—and two decades ago, tracking calls wasn't as easy as it is today. That was the last time that Terry was seen, and she was never heard from again. She would be 50 years old today. At the time of her disappearance, on Jan. 6, 1991, she was 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighed between 105 and 120 pounds. She …

Few things that went wrong here that could have prevented this from happening. One a locked down unit. I've been in several hospitals to have my babies and each unit was locked down with security measures in place. my favorite was a hospital that had an entry door where a nurse had to buzz you in the door had a large window that covered almost the entire door so it was easy to see who was coming …   more ›
