Alleged South Baldwin Burglar Will Start Non-Jury Trial May 16

William Murphy III remains in jail and charged with an array of offenses.

William Joseph Murphy III, who has been charged with multiple counts of burglary, criminal trespassing, theft and receiving stolen property stemming from late 2012 and early 2013 incidents, is facing a non-jury trial that starts on May 16, according to an online docket sheet. The alleged south Baldwin Borough burglar remains in the Allegheny County Jail on $50,000 bail.  Officers from multiple police departments detained Murphy at a Blossom Drive home on Jan. 4 as part of a burglary investigation in the area, according to Baldwin police Chief Michael Scott. Baldwin's William Murphy III to Have Pretrial Conference This Month

The alleged south Baldwin burglar remains in jail and charged with an array of offenses.

A pretrial conference awaits William Joseph Murphy III, the alleged south Baldwin Borough burglar who remains in the Allegheny County Jail, according to an online docket sheet. Murphy, who has been charged with multiple counts of burglary, criminal trespassing, theft and receiving stolen property stemming from late 2012 and early 2013 incidents, will have a pretrial conference at the Allegheny County Courthouse on April 26—the result of his March 18 formal arraignment. Officers from multiple police departments detained Murphy at a Blossom Drive home on Jan. 4 as part of a burglary investigation in the area, according to Baldwin police Chief Michael Scott. Charges Filed Against Man in Baldwin Police Shooting

Bryan Lijewski faces one felony charge and nine misdemeanors.

Baldwin Borough police have charged Bryan Robert Lijewski, 30, with one felony and nine misdemeanors stemming from their appearance at Lijewski's home on Elmwood Drive in central Baldwin on Feb. 10, according to an online docket sheet. Police went to Lijewski's home at 5147 Elmwood at around 4 a.m. that day in response to a domestic disturbance involving a female resident who told police that her boyfriend, who also lives at the home, was holding a gun and was threatening to harm himself, Allegheny County police Superintendent Charles Moffatt said at a news conference later that day. The incident resulted in the injury of Baldwin Borough police Sgt. Ralph Miller, who was shot twice in the hip/lower back area by a fellow Baldwin officer …

Baldwin Council Meets with Police Chief to Discuss Personnel

Public Safety Chair Larry Brown says that the council will not intervene with Chief Scott's investigation of a Sunday morning shooting. Scott reveals more details of the incident.

The start of Tuesday night's Baldwin Borough Council meeting was delayed by about 10 minutes to allow the Baldwin Council to finish another meeting with borough police Chief Michael Scott. The chief's private meeting with Baldwin's elected officials was to discuss personnel, borough Manager John Barrett said. The meeting comes less than three days after a Sunday morning shooting at a home on Elmwood Drive in the central part of the borough left one Baldwin police officer—Sgt. Ralph Miller—with gunshot wounds in his hip/lower back area. Friendly Fire to Blame in Shooting of Baldwin Boro Police Officer

The shooting occurred at around 4 a.m. on Sunday at a home on Elmwood Drive.

A Baldwin Borough police sergeant remains in stable condition at a Pittsburgh-area hospital, where he is being treated for gunshot wounds in his hip/lower back area, according to Allegheny County police Superintendent Charles Moffatt. Baldwin Council Vice President Michael Stelmasczyk confirmed that the injured officer is Sgt. Ralph Miller. Miller was injured by two rifle blasts from another Baldwin police officer while they and a third Baldwin officer were responding to a domestic disturbance at 5147 Elmwood Dr. in Baldwin (near the Wallace Building) at around 4 Sunday morning. Suspect in Kidnapping of WV Girl Apprehended in Baldwin

The girl reportedly was found in Washington County.

A suspect in the kidnapping of a 2-year-old girl from Preston County, WV, was taken into custody by police on Friday in a parking lot outside of Italian Village Pizza in Baldwin Borough, not far from the Route 51 cloverleaf. The suspect was caught by a Pleasant Hills Borough police officer after police pursued his vehicle on Route 51 North. According to Baldwin police Chief Michael Scott, police units from Baldwin, Pleasant Hills and West Mifflin Borough were able to box the suspect in the parking lot. Baldwin police also deployed "spike strips" (tire deflation devices) about 300 yards farther north on Route 51, but the suspect turned into the parking lot before ever reaching those strips. Driver Stopped, Asleep in Middle of Lucy Drive

DUI Arrest A Baldwin Borough police officer came across a stopped vehicle in the middle of Lucy Drive near McAnulty Road at around 12:23 a.m. on Wednesday. Its driver was asleep behind the wheel, according to Baldwin's police report of the incident. The officer smelled alcohol upon approaching the driver—Steven Brnusak, 31, of Millet Lane in Pleasant Hills Borough. Brnusak then failed field-sobriety tests, was arrested and was transported to Jefferson Regional Medical Center for a blood test (results pending) before being taken home and released to the custody of his wife. William Murphy Back in Jail, Charged with 8 Baldwin Burglaries

Police arrested Murphy at a motel on Route 51 in Jefferson Hills.

William Joseph Murphy III is accused of burglarizing eight Baldwin Borough homes—and attempting to burglarize two others—leading to an arrest by Baldwin police on Thursday at a motel on Route 51 in Jefferson Hills Borough, police Chief Michael Scott said. Until recently, Murphy, 28, lived in the 600 block of Blossom Drive in Baldwin. He is accused of stealing items from the homes of four neighbors in that same block in south Baldwin—including one home twice—Scott said. The three other burglaries happened on nearby Elaine and Norma drives, and on Elderslee Road in central Baldwin. Baldwin Man Admits to Break-in Attempt on Elaine Drive

William Joseph Murphy III has admitted to trying to burglarize a house in south Baldwin Borough, according to a criminal complaint filed at District Magistrate John N. Bova's Wallace Building office. Officers from multiple police departments detained Murphy at a Blossom Drive home on Jan. 4 as part of a burglary investigation in south Baldwin, according to Baldwin police Chief Michael Scott. Major Crime Down Baldwin Borough police Chief Michael Scott said at Tuesday night's regular Baldwin Council meeting that major crime in Baldwin has gone down in recent years. The amount of Uniform Crime Reporting Part 1 crimes in the borough, which include criminal homicide, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny-theft, criminal mischief over $500, motor vehicle theft and arson, was down 4 percent in the borough from 2011 to 2012, Chief Scott said, despite multiple burglaries toward the end of 2012.
