Baldwin's Saint Albert Fish Fry in Running for Y108 Broadcast

Vote now to have 'Jimmy and Monty' appear in north Baldwin.

Saint Albert the Great Catholic Parish could be the site of the next special broadcast of the "Jimmy and Monty In The Morning" show on Y108. Saint Albert's, found off of Churchview Avenue in north Baldwin Borough, is up against seven other Pittsburgh-area nonprofits this week in Jimmy and Monty's hometown fish fry contest. The place with the most votes by Friday—VOTE HERE—will earn a special visit from the radio morning show hosts that night with parts of their appearance recorded for broadcast. As of 10:30 on Tuesday morning, the Etna Volunteer Fire Department has a sizeable lead, but should the top two places finish with vote totals less than 1 percent from one another, Jimmy and Monty may broadcast from both locations. Saint Albert's …

John Sr, did you ever stop to think that maybe while traveling through or to a particular area of the community, the officer spotted someone driving carelessly, erratically, etc and then pulled them over? I am glad they are getting these drunks off our streets, it makes the community safer. Many of them are not from our borough, wonder how they would feel if we drove drunk on their neighborhood …   more ›

McKeesport Man Arrested in Charlotte Drive Gun Encounter

The incident occurred on June 3 in south Baldwin.

Authorities from the Allegheny County Sheriff's Office arrested Robert Becoate, 21, of Soles Street in McKeesport, on Saturday on a warrant issued by the Baldwin Borough Police Department. Becoate is the one whom police believe pulled a gun on a man in a home on Charlotte Drive in south Baldwin on June 3, Baldwin police Chief Michael Scott said. PA's U.S. House District 14 Candidate: Mike Doyle

Doyle—the Democratic incumbent—is being challenged by two others for his seat.

Three people will run in an April 24 primary election for two spots on November's general ballot for the U.S. House of Representatives' 14th District of Pennsylvania, which includes Baldwin Township and Baldwin Borough. Incumbent Mike Doyle, from Forest Hills Borough, will face off against Janis Brooks, a North Versailles Township resident, in April's primary for the Democratic Party nomination. Republican Hans Lessmann, of Forest Hills, is the only candidate from his party running for that seat, meaning that either Doyle or Brooks will almost certainly face Lessmann in November. Below are details from a Patch interview with Doyle. Here is an interview with Brooks. An interview with Lessmann will appear later. Short Biography: Doyle has a …

Life gets busy. Deadlines creep up on us all. Patch helps you to remember—before it's too late.

Welcome to Last Chance, a Patch series reminding you of deadlines you don't want to miss. This week's dates to remember?  1.) Today is the last day for property owners in Allegheny County to file formal appeals of their court-ordered property reassessments. Forms must be postmarked on or before today, April 2. They also may be taken to one of several collection points today. "I encourage all property owners to file a formal appeal by Monday's deadline to preserve their legal rights," County Executive Rich Fitzgerald said in a statement. "Appeals may always be withdrawn, but once Monday's deadline passes, …

Two Pantsless Women Stuck on Railroad Tracks in Baldwin

And other Baldwin Borough police news from the past week.

No Pants, No Road, a Problem Two women wearing nothing but shirts were found by a Baldwin Borough police officer inside of a gray Ford Focus stuck on the railroad tracks along Streets Run Road near Route 51 at around 2:59 a.m. on Saturday, St. Patrick's Day. When the officer approached the Focus, he smelled the strong odor of alcohol, according to his report. The officer requested numerous times that the driver—Andrea M. Vennare, 23, of 233 Albany St. in Pittsburgh's Ridgemont neighborhood—get dressed so that he could put her through field-sobriety tests, but Vennare refused. Eventually, Vennare failed all field-sobriety tests and a breath-analyzer test before being arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. Vennare …
