Man Gets 1-2 Years After Plea Agreement in Baldwin Rape Case

Jamal Tompkins was charged with raping a mentally disabled girl, but he pleaded guilty only to sexual assault and corruption of minors.

The man whom Baldwin Borough police officers tracked down in Erie, PA, over a year ago on charges that he raped a mentally disabled girl in south Baldwin in September 2010 has been sentenced to approximately 1-2 years of confinement for sexual assault and corruption of minors. Jamal Tompkins pleaded guilty to those charges in front of Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas Judge Donna Jo McDaniel on Dec. 10 before McDaniel withdrew nine other charges and issued the sentence. McDaniel also sentenced Tompkins to five years of probation and lifetime registration as a sex offender. Baldwin No. 1 Fireman Honored as a Hero by Red Cross

Alex Vogel, a firefighter with Baldwin Independent Fire Company No. 1, is one of the six community heroes who were honored on Thursday at a 2012 American Red Cross Heroes Breakfast at Pittsburgh's CONSOL Energy Center. Vogel received the Professional Responder Hero Award for Southwestern Pennsylvania during the event in CONSOL's Lexus Club. Five other heroes were honored at the fourth annual event, which also serves as a fundraiser for the American Red Cross. From the time that Vogel was a child, he said that his family members knew that he would follow in his father's footsteps and become a volunteer firefighter. Awesome job to Fire Fighter Vogel, 105 crew is a good crew, sometimes our heros run into trouble but in all when the bells go off, these are the people they truly are, when they run through that door and put that gear on and honnor there title as a Baldwin 105 fire fighter. Baldwin Woman, Wilkinsburg Man Arrested for DUIs in Baldwin Boro

Baldwin Woman Arrested A Baldwin Borough police officer stopped motorist Dana Lynn Lachman, 30, of Hamlet Court in Baldwin Borough, for erratic driving while heading north on Curry Hollow Road at around 1:43 a.m. on Friday. Lachman was stopped in a Walgreens parking lot just over the Pleasant Hills Borough border, where the officer smelled alcohol coming from her, according to a police report. Lachman failed field-sobriety and breath-analyzer tests and was arrested and taken to the Baldwin police station, where she twice failed additional breath-analyzer tests before being released to the custody of her boyfriend.
