REMINDER/DETAILS: 'Drop the Puck on Cancer' (Again) in Brentwood

The event, now in its second year, raised more than $53,000 in 2012.

It'll once again be a great day for hockey when residents from around Pittsburgh convene in Brentwood Borough on Saturday, March 9, for the second annual "Drop the Puck on Cancer" fundraising event that will benefit a number of South Hills families. "Drop the Puck" raised more than $53,000 this past year for the Duttine family, of Whitehall Borough, and the efforts of the late Tom Cavataio, of Brentwood. Julie Andrulonis Duttine, who grew up in Brentwood, died from cancer in December 2011, the same month that Tom Cavataio, a hockey enthusiast largely responsible for developing street hockey in Brentwood, also died from the disease. Baldwin No. 1 Firefighters Heading Back Down South

A fundraiser will be held for the crew on Saturday at C.J. Chugs.

Six firefighters from Baldwin Independent Fire Company No. 1 are heading back to Hackleburg, AL, from June 9-12 to deliver fire equipment and to help rebuild an area ravaged by tornadoes in the spring of 2011. In a story covered by the Baldwin-Whitehall Patch in May, that year, the Baldwin firefighters said that they felt compelled to help the small town after seeing and hearing of reports of the extensive damage. Said Baldwin Independent Captain Bill Connors at the time, "We all have to work. We all have to pay the bills, but hey, these folks are in serious trouble down there."
