This week's local restaurant spotlight is Julie's Treats, located at Caste Village in Whitehall Borough. This café serves up pastries, ice cream, fresh coffee and handmade candy, as well as pita sandwiches. Wednesday's Powerball a Record $500 Million (or More) Jackpot

Where to buy a Powerball ticket in Baldwin-Whitehall and the odds of winning the jackpot.

The historic Powerball jackpot rose to a record $500 million on Tuesday, and many Baldwin-Whitehall residents are expected to purchase a ticket on Wednesday—if they haven't already. According to this Pennsylvania Lottery Web page, there are quite a few places to purchase a Powerball ticket in Baldwin-Whitehall. There has been no Powerball winner since Oct. 6. The chance of winning the $500 million jackpot is 1 in 175,223,510. The Powerball is drawn every Wednesday and Saturday night at 10:59 p.m. Ticket sales are cut off at least 59 minutes before the draw. Each ticket costs $2. Good luck. If there's one thing that we do like about hot temperatures, it's the desire to cool off with a favorite ice cream or frozen yogurt treat. And there are a number of joints around Baldwin Borough, Whitehall Borough and Baldwin Township that are known at least in part for their frozen offerings. Julie's Treats: Small Store, Big Selection at the Heart of Caste Village

Location is the key for this food-stop in Whitehall Borough.

As the old saying goes: location, location, location. "I knew that if it was done right, it could be great," Julie Mancine thought to herself as she saw a vacancy develop at Caste Village Commons in Whitehall Borough in mid-2010. "It was a potential goldmine." Mancine, a Whitehall native and resident who graduated from Baldwin High School in 1987, frequented the former Gallery of Treats shop at Caste Village while she was growing up and is now the owner of Julie's Treats at the same location. Gallery of Treats closed around July 2010, and Mancine rented the vacant space smack in the middle of Caste Commons—the inside "mall area" of Caste Village—about two months later.
