County Police Say No Criminal Negligence by Baldwin Police in Shooting

Meantime, a suspect involved in the February incident remains in jail.

The suspect who allegedly shut a door on Baldwin Borough police officers, leading to one officer's rifle going off and firing two shots into a police sergeant's back, remains in the Allegheny County Jail after waiving his preliminary hearing last week, according to an online docket sheet. Meantime, Baldwin Mayor Alexander R. Bennett Jr. is reviewing an internal investigation of the incident that included a firearms review, interviews with police officers and an Allegheny County police investigation, to determine if any action should be taken on his part, according to a Pittsburgh Tribune-Review report. The county police's investigation determined that there was no criminal negligence by Baldwin police, the newspaper reported. Police were …

Ok maybe it has not happened in a unit you served in and it has not happened in my dept BUT I was referring to the military in general. I do not have time to research but I am sure there are incidents of "accidents" involving firearms. Yes muzzle discipline is crucial and the finger should be off trigger until ready to fire but again during "tense, uncertain rapidly evolving situations" these "…   more ›

Like I said way earlier, this is a list of DUI arrest matters, not ALL arrests or all police action. If you recall, DUIs used to be published in the Pittsburgh papers. Now they seem to be published on the internet. Has NOTHING to do with what the sum total of the actions of our police force are.   more ›

William Murphy Back in Jail, Charged with 8 Baldwin Burglaries

Police arrested Murphy at a motel on Route 51 in Jefferson Hills.

William Joseph Murphy III is accused of burglarizing eight Baldwin Borough homes—and attempting to burglarize two others—leading to an arrest by Baldwin police on Thursday at a motel on Route 51 in Jefferson Hills Borough, police Chief Michael Scott said. Until recently, Murphy, 28, lived in the 600 block of Blossom Drive in Baldwin. He is accused of stealing items from the homes of four neighbors in that same block in south Baldwin—including one home twice—Scott said. The three other burglaries happened on nearby Elaine and Norma drives, and on Elderslee Road in central Baldwin. The eight burglaries for which he is being charged all occurred since October 2012, Scott said. That does not include incidents on Jan. 4 or 16 in which residents…

UPDATE: Becks Run Firemen Charges

Novak and Bonetti will have a pretrial conference at the Allegheny County Courthouse on Feb. 15.

UPDATE: The result of Novak and Bonetti's formal arraignment is a pretrial conference at the Allegheny County Courthouse scheduled for Feb. 15.  ...  District Judge Robert Wyda waived for court on Friday all 24 combined charges against Becks Run firefighters Leonard "Len" Novak and Stephen Bonetti, pushing their case onto a formal arraignment at the Allegheny County Courthouse on Jan. 8. Wyda, the magistrate for Upper St. Clair Township and Bethel Park, oversaw Novak and Bonetti's preliminary hearing because District Judge John N. Bova of Baldwin Borough has recused himself from their case. A judge may recuse him or herself from a case should he or she feel a conflict of interest with any of the participating parties, or have some other …
