'It's an awesome district. I knew this was the place where I wanted to be and spend my career.' - Peter Wagner Jr.
Peter Wagner Jr. became the newest head coach of the Baldwin High School football program on Wednesday night, and if the Baldwin-Whitehall School Board's vote on his hiring is any indication, Wagner will—rightly or wrongly—have something to prove. Three board members voted against hiring Wagner—six voted for him—and that was after B-W School District administration recommended somebody else for the job. Coincidentally enough, that somebody else is somebody whom Wagner is very familiar with—Greg Perry, who was the head coach at Seton-La Salle Catholic High School in Mt. Lebanon for the past eight seasons and an assistant coach at Seton-La Salle for the 11 seasons prior to that, including the entirety of Wagner's high school playing career. …

School board chooses Wagner by a 6-3 vote after rejecting Seton-La Salle Coach Greg Perry, 5-4.
Peter Wagner Jr. is the newest head coach of the Baldwin High School football program, the Baldwin-Whitehall School Board decided by a 6-3 vote on Wednesday night. Wagner, the dean of students at Baldwin High, has served as the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator for the high school's varsity team for the past two seasons. He has been an overall assistant in the program for the past four seasons. School board member Tracy Macek motioned for Wagner to be the new head coach after board member George L. Pry's motion to hire Greg Perry failed by a 5-4 vote. (Pry was acting on a recommendation made by B-W School District administration.) Voting for Perry were Nancy Lee Crowder, Nancy Sciulli DiNardo, Pry and Martin Michael Schmotzer…

The school board will make its decision that night. Candidates' names have not been revealed.
Less than one month after accepting the resignation of Jim Wehner as the head coach of the Baldwin High School football program, the Baldwin-Whitehall School Board is scheduled to hire a new head coach at its meeting on Wednesday night. The meeting will start at 7:30 p.m. at the Baldwin-Whitehall School District Office along Curry Road in Whitehall Borough. It is not known if the new coach will assume Wehner's duties stemming from his Personal Fitness position at the high school. That position was taken from Wehner by the school board on Jan. 16 along with declaring all of the football coaching positions in the school district as open. The open positions include all of those at Baldwin High (varsity, junior varsity and ninth-grade teams) …

Former Head Coach Jim Wehner was also removed from his Personal Fitness position at Baldwin High School.
The Baldwin-Whitehall School Board accepted the resignation on Wednesday night of Jim Wehner as Baldwin High School's head varsity football coach. The board also declared all football coaching positions in the Baldwin-Whitehall School District as open. The open positions include all of those at Baldwin High (varsity, junior varsity and ninth-grade teams) and at J.E. Harrison Middle School. Wehner was also removed from his Personal Fitness position at the high school. The district will look to fill the vacancies before next football season. Those removed from their positions could have a chance to rejoin the teams. Following Baldwin's season-ending 42-25 loss to Bethel Park High School on Oct. 26, Wehner said, "I like this team, and …

Fall sports coaches haven't been evaluated yet this year.
Jeff Ruscitto, a Whitehall Borough resident and a parent of two members of the Baldwin High School varsity football team, is not a fan of the team's current coaching situation. Ruscitto took his concerns directly to the Baldwin-Whitehall School Board on Wednesday night, asking if district administration is considering the replacement of any members of the high school football staff. Jim Wehner, a physical education teacher at Baldwin High, is the program's head coach. "Hearing some of the comments that they (some of the team's players) have made," Ruscitto said, "there are a significant amount of players that plan on not returning next year to play if the current regime is in place. I've heard some coaches that don't wanna come back, as …

The Highlanders ended up at 3-6 overall and out of the playoffs.
After nine challenging games, the Baldwin High School football team finished in seventh place in 2012 in the newly formed WPIAL AAAA Southeastern Conference with a 2-6 conference record and a 3-6 overall mark. Baldwin High failed to make the WPIAL football playoffs for the third straight year and also failed to win more games than it did in its previous season for the first time in Jim Wehner's four years as head coach. But for what it's worth, some individual Highlanders put up some impressive numbers during the 2012 season, including senior running back Dorian Brown, who amassed over 1,000 rushing yards for the second straight year, and sophomore quarterback Doug Altavilla, who threw for 843 yards and four touchdowns. However, did you …

For the first time in his four years as the head coach of the Baldwin High School varsity football team, Jim Wehner's Highlanders will not win more games than they did in their previous season. Baldwin High finished its 2012 season at 3-6 overall after falling to the visitors from Bethel Park High School, 42-25, on Senior Night on Friday—one game worse than the Highlanders' 4-5 mark from a year ago. In 2010, Baldwin was also 3-6, but that was after a 2-8 mark in 2009 (Wehner's first season …

Looking very much like the quarterback whom his head coach says that he is, Baldwin High School sophomore Doug Altavilla threw for 248 yards and two touchdowns to lead his team to a 31-7 win over Canon-McMillan High School in a WPIAL AAAA Southeastern Conference football game on Friday night. In the first half alone, Altavilla completed eight of nine passes for 240 yards and both TDs. He finished the game going 9-for-13 against the host Big Macs (1-7 overall, 1-6 Southeastern), even though …

The Foxes threw six passes during Friday night's non-conference game against visiting Baldwin High School, and only one was caught ... by a Baldwin player. The Highlanders' sophomore linebacker Donald West stepped in front of a short pass from junior quarterback Brandon Mitchell early in the third quarter, intercepted it and returned it 53 yards for a touchdown to give Baldwin …
