Observing Passover in Baldwin-Whitehall: What You Need to Know

It's almost time to break out the matzo. Passover arrives on March 25 this year, when Jews across the world will come together to retell the Exodus story over four cups of wine (or grape juice for those who can't indulge), and of course, a large, festive feast. One Last Chance to Sing for Former Baldwin Choir Director Regis Shalley

Dr. Shalley died on March 6.

Former Baldwin High School choir members will have one last chance to sing for the late Dr. Regis V. Shalley. Dr. Shalley, who died on March 6 at the age of 88, will have a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Elizabeth of Hungary Roman Catholic Church in Baldwin Borough at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 14, and choir alumni are invited to attend and sing in honor of Shalley at the conclusion of the Mass. Shalley was the choral director at Baldwin High from 1954 to 1981. Friends are being received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home in Brentwood Borough on Tuesday, March 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday, March 13, from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral prayer will also be held at Slater's on Thursday morning at 10:15. Man, Woman Arrested in Baldwin Twp. on DUI Charges

Both arrests occurred on Feb. 16.

Part I Working in cooperation with the Mt. Lebanon Area DUI Task Force, a Baldwin Township police officer stopped a motorist in the 2600 block of Route 88 in Pittsburgh's Overbrook neighborhood at around 12:12 a.m. on Feb. 16 for erratic driving, Baldwin Township police Chief Terrence P. O'Brien said. Brian Daetwyler, 33, of Village Green Drive in the Heritage Hills complex of Jefferson Hills Borough, was speeding and crossing the center line in the 100 block of McNeilly Road, O'Brien said. Daetwyler displayed signs of intoxication, O'Brien said, before the officer put him through breath-analyzer and field-sobriety tests, which he failed, and took him to the Mt. Another Theft-from-Vehicle Victim in Whitehall

Theft from Vehicle Whitehall Borough police received a call from a resident of the 3200 block of Longwood Drive on Friday. The resident reported that, sometime during Thursday night or Friday morning, somebody went into his unlocked vehicle while it was parked in his driveway and removed 15-20 $1 bills and some personal keys, Whitehall police Deputy Chief Richard M. Danko said. The theft is under investigation. There have been numerous theft-from-vehicle cases reported recently in Whitehall and Baldwin boroughs. Four Copper Thefts Reported Recently in Whitehall

Copper Thefts Copper thieves have hit Duquesne Light's Elwyn Power Station in Whitehall Borough three times this month, Whitehall police Deputy Chief Richard M. Danko said. As with similar Jan. 20 and Jan. 4 reports, Duquesne Light corporate security personnel contacted Whitehall police this past Saturday to report that one or more people had recently broken into the power station on Earlsdale Road and removed copper wiring. Most recently removed was ground wire in 20-to-25 different places, often in areas of high voltage, Danko said, and a spool of copper wire weighing approximately 500 pounds. The spool is valued at around $5,000, Danko said, while the other copper taken is valued between $1,000 and $2,000. Police are investigating the …

William Murphy Back in Jail, Charged with 8 Baldwin Burglaries

Police arrested Murphy at a motel on Route 51 in Jefferson Hills.

William Joseph Murphy III is accused of burglarizing eight Baldwin Borough homes—and attempting to burglarize two others—leading to an arrest by Baldwin police on Thursday at a motel on Route 51 in Jefferson Hills Borough, police Chief Michael Scott said. Until recently, Murphy, 28, lived in the 600 block of Blossom Drive in Baldwin. He is accused of stealing items from the homes of four neighbors in that same block in south Baldwin—including one home twice—Scott said. The three other burglaries happened on nearby Elaine and Norma drives, and on Elderslee Road in central Baldwin. The eight burglaries for which he is being charged all occurred since October 2012, Scott said. That does not include incidents on Jan. 4 or 16 in which residents…

Suzie not everyone is blaming the mother or brother. He needs help and only he can seek it for himself. Being in jail will not solve his problem, he needs to go to rehab and to fight the demons but this is a decision that only he can make on his own.   more ›
