Stretch from the Glenwood Bridge to Becks Run Road is affected.
Noralco Corporation crews will be removing a water pump building along East Carson Street in north Baldwin Borough this weekend, April 19-22, weather permitting, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. The work will require East Carson to be closed between Becks Run Road in north Baldwin and the Glenwood Bridge in Pittsburgh's Hays neighborhood from approximately 10 p.m. on Friday through approximately 5 a.m. on Monday. Drivers should allow for extra travel time.
Short-term lane closures on East Carson Street in the Borough of Baldwin and the City of Pittsburgh will occur on Tuesday, April 9 weather permitting. Single-lane traffic will occur in work areas from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday. Stop conditions will occur. "Motorists should use caution, allow extra time, and be aware of changing traffic patterns in the area," according to the PennDOT news release. In the 57 years since a B-25 Mitchell bomber ditched in the Monongahela River near Homestead and Baldwin boroughs, its fate has been a tale filled with mystery, suspicion and intrigue. The plane was over New Alexandria, PA, when it began experiencing problems with its level of fuel. Its pilot shifted course and began heading for Greater Pittsburgh Airport (as it was then known), and as more fuel seemed to disappear, targeted Allegheny County Airport instead. When its engines ceased operating near the populated area approaching Pittsburgh, the pilot advised his crew that they would ditch in the river. Crews from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 11-0 will cause temporary lane closures and restrictions on East Carson Street on Monday, Dec. 17, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., due to drainage improvements. Monday is expected to be the last day for this project, which started on Nov. 26. The work will occur between East Carson's intersection with Becks Run Road in north Baldwin Borough and the Glenwood Bridge area in Pittsburgh's Hays neighborhood. Motorists should expect temporary lane closures and restrictions on Tuesday due to overhead sign safety inspections on and near the Glenwood Bridge in Pittsburgh's Hays neighborhood, weather permitting. The short-term closures and restrictions will occur as needed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. that day on the bridge and on the various connecting ramps and roadways at the East Carson Street/Glass Run Road Glenwood Interchange (on the north Baldwin Borough border).
