Final Phase of Brownsville-Broughton-Curry Hollow Project Begins Monday

It won't be pretty through at least May 24.

Traffic from both directions on Brownsville Road will be restricted to just one alternating lane between Willard Drive and Curry Hollow Road 24 hours per day and seven days per week from 7 a.m. on Monday, May 13, until 8 p.m. on Friday, May 24, as part of the final phase of the Brownsville-Curry Hollow-Broughton Road realignment project. Work crews will be active from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. Mondays through Fridays during that time period. The Allegheny County Department of Public Works, in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 11-0, is overseeing the $8.6-million project to improve the busy Brownsville-Curry Hollow-Broughton intersection on the borders of South Park Township and Baldwin and Pleasant Hills …

PHOTOS: New Traffic Pattern at Curry Hollow-Brownsville Intersection

Overall work is expected to conclude in spring 2013.

UPDATE (Thursday, June 28): The lanes have shifted a day later than expected. See media gallery for photos. Starting on Wednesday, traffic on Curry Hollow Road near its Brownsville Road/Broughton Road intersection will shift. No, the construction project there's not done yet (sorry); the roadwork is just moving over a bit. Right now, Curry Hollow's westbound lane (toward Broughton) is handling vehicles near that intersection that are heading both east and west. But on Wednesday, the westbound lane will be closed, and traffic going both ways will shift over to the eastbound lane (toward Route 51). Temporary traffic signals will remain in place as this large, $8.6-million project being overseen by the Allegheny County Department of Public …

I drove though there yesterday and traffic wasn't bad at all. Guess it depends on the time you go though. The worse traffic mess is coming next year when they start working down at 51 & 88 Construction Project.   more ›
