WATCH: Brave Souls Take the 'Plunge' for Brentwood-Baldwin-Whitehall
Volunteers raise funds for area development by jumping into the Mon' River as part of the annual Pittsburgh Polar Plunge.
Hundreds of Pittsburghers successively broke the world's 3-meter doggypaddle record on New Year's Day after braving 36-degree temperatures to jump into the Monongahela River. And nearly 30 of those record-breakers were community leaders and volunteers from Brentwood, Baldwin and Whitehall boroughs. The Brentwood-Baldwin-Whitehall folks, headed by John F. Slater—owner of the John F. Slater Funeral Home in Brentwood and the board chair of Economic Development South—accepted sponsorships of varying amounts to make good on their promise of arctic swimming.
