Brentwood's "Firecracker" Race and Independence Day Parade to Close Part of Brownsville on Monday

Brownsville Road, from Route 51 to Maytide Street, will be closed from 8 a.m. to approximately 1 p.m.

Essentially all of Brentwood Borough's portion of Brownsville Road, from Route 51 to Maytide Street, will be closed on Monday from 8 a.m. to approximately 1 p.m. to accommodate Brentwood's annual 5,000-meter "Firecracker" race and Independence Day parade. Many residents of Whitehall Borough and north Baldwin Borough use that large section of Brownsville to connect to both areas. All Port Authority of Allegheny County bus stops along that route will be discontinued on Monday during that time period.

United We Stand: Caste Village Fireworks Draw Community Together

Despite a threat of rain, Baldwin-Whitehall continues to embrace an annual Independence Day celebration.

Yes, it was 10 days early, but residents from the Baldwin-Whitehall area and its surrounding communities didn't seem to mind celebrating Independence Day on June 24, this year. Whitehall Borough's Caste Village shopping area, with sponsorship from the Caste Village Merchants Association, hosts an annual fireworks show around July 4. The association makes every effort not to compete with Pittsburgh's other Independence Day celebrations, which accounts for Whitehall's early date this year. The renowned Pyrotecnico company launched Caste's 2011 fireworks, and although attendance numbers aren't in for this year's show, a representative from The Royal Mile Company said that 2010's attendance was estimated at around 20,000 people immediately…

CLARIFICATION: Friday's Fireworks Show at Caste Village to Close Some Roads, Bus Stops

Expected congestion and setup for the celebration are the causes.

(UPDATE made below - in italics.) Whitehall Borough's annual Independence Day fireworks show at Caste Village will be held on Friday, June 24, this year, starting at approximately 9 p.m. Because the event will require the closure of Village Lane and part of Grove Road from Village Lane to Baptist Road for fire-truck staging and pedestrian traffic, and because part of Weyman Road will be closed between Village Lane and Baptist for fireworks setup and launching, Port Authority of Allegheny County announced that it will close a number of its bus stops in Whitehall and Brentwood boroughs for June 24. Port Authority said that road closures should occur at around 7 p.m. that day but could occur earlier. Before the road closures start, Port …
