Rates to use the Baldwin Borough Swimming Pool may rise in 2013 by $5 per season pass. At the same time, rates to use the pool for only a half-day or a half-season may fall. Borough Manager John Barrett told the Baldwin Council at its meeting on Tuesday night that he and borough pool Manager Chris Milius spoke recently and came up with those suggestions as ways to raise revenue for the pool, which officials say is losing money. Baldwin Borough's real estate tax collector for the next four years—whomever that may be—is getting a raise. The Baldwin Council voted, 4-2, to approve the salary increase at a special meeting on Friday night. Gail Dobson Mikush, the borough's current real estate tax collector, requested the raise, which she called a "cost of living increase" in a letter addressed to the council. Mikush requested to move her position's salary from $10,000 per year to $12,400. Read more about her letter here. Urban, a lifelong Baldwin Borough resident, is seeking no reimbursement for his time and effort but asked the Baldwin Council during its meeting on Tuesday night to allow him to seek funds for borough officials to use in revitalizing the park. Baldwin Borough's council members voted, 6-1, on Tuesday night in favor of using the borough's road funds to repair only roads in south Baldwin this year. Councilman Bob Collet made that motion, saying that the borough should save money by keeping its resurfacing equipment in one general area as opposed to taking it across Route 51 and up Streets Run Road to north Baldwin. Ann Scott Returns Former longtime Baldwin Borough municipal employee Ann Scott's replacement on the borough's all-volunteer Civil Service Commission in April should never have been appointed. The Baldwin Council officially recognized that mistake in October when it accepted the resignation of her replacement—James Behers. As a state constable, Behers was ineligible for a spot on the Civil Service Commission, something that no council member was aware of when he was appointed. At a meeting on Tuesday night, the council brought Scott back to the commission with a narrow, 4-3 vote, and she will serve there again until at least the end of April 2018. While its chief and deputy chief await a formal Allegheny County arraignment for embezzlement charges, the Becks Run Volunteer Fire Department was officially decertified by the Baldwin Borough Council on Tuesday night. The council voted, 6-0, to approve the decertification, which terminates all authority previously granted to the department to perform duties associated with a volunteer fire department and revokes its official status as a volunteer fire department serving the borough.
