Traffic signal safety improvements on Lebanon Church Road (Route 2040) in nearby West Mifflin Borough will begin on Wednesday, May 8, weather permitting, according to a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 11-0 news release. Crews will be installing retroreflective tape to existing signal backplates. Short-term lane restrictions will occur as needed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Thursday, May 23, at the following Lebanon Church intersections: All turning movements will be accommodated. Crews from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 11-0 will cause temporary lane closures and restrictions for drainage improvements across a large part of Streets Run Road. The work, which will run from Delwar Road in West Mifflin Borough to the Glenwood Interchange area on the border of north Baldwin Borough and Pittsburgh's Hays neighborhood, will last from Jan. 28 to Feb. 15, at the least. The milling, which will run from Delwar Road in West Mifflin Borough to the Glenwood Interchange area on the border of north Baldwin Borough and Pittsburgh's Hays neighborhood, will last from Jan. 22 to 25, at the least. McPherson, 81, died on Wednesday.
Samuel McPherson, who most recently lived in Whitehall Borough, died unexpectedly at the age of 81 on Wednesday, according to his obituary published by the Jefferson Memorial Cemetery and Funeral Home. A cause of death was not given. McPherson was a longtime resident of Baldwin Borough, having served in the roles of borough mayor, councilman, committeeman and democratic chairman there. He was also an honorary member of the South Baldwin Volunteer Fire Company. McPherson was also a member of Steamfitters Local Union No. 449 for over 55 years and was employed with the Power Piping Company of Etna Borough for over 50 years, serving as a steamfitter, project manager and part-owner. That is a scary intersection, made scarier by the fact that it is always jam-packed busy. And you're right, people think that because they saw a Yellow light on their approach that they automatically get to go whether or not the light is Red when they actually get there.   more ›
