Toski has been sentenced in federal court to two years of probation, six months of home detention with electronic monitoring, a fine of $2,000 and restitution in the amount of $6,114.71 for his conviction of unauthorized computer access to a protected computer, and computer damage, U.S. Attorney David J. Hickton announced on Friday. A federal judge sentenced Oliver Wynn Herndon on Monday morning to more than 11 years.
A McMurray doctor who was accused of illegally prescribing narcotics and who pleaded guilty in May to health care fraud and all related charges, was sentenced on Monday morning to more than 11 years in prison. Dr. Oliver W. Herndon was sentenced in federal court to 135 months—11 years and 3 months—which is to be followed by three years of supervised release, on his convictions for health care fraud and violating federal narcotics laws, U.S. Attorney David J. Hickton announced on Monday through a news release. U.S. District Judge Arthur J. Schwab imposed the sentence on Herndon, 40, of 311 Braeburn Dr. in Peters Township. A resident of Dublin, Ireland—Adam Stuart Busby, 64—is facing more than two dozen charges in connection with a rash of bomb threats at the University of Pittsburgh in the closing weeks of this past spring semester. A federal grand jury returned two indictments on Wednesday against Busby. He is charged with emailing bomb threats targeting the university, three federal courthouses and a federal officer. A separate four-count indictment charges Busby with, on June 20 and 21, maliciously conveying false information through the Internet claiming that bombs had been placed at federal courthouses in Pittsburgh, Erie and Johnstown. Robert S. Toski, 48, of 5139 Janie Drive in Baldwin Borough, pleaded guilty in federal court on Wednesday to unauthorized computer access to a protected computer and computer damage, according to U.S. Attorney David J. Hickton. Toski made his plea in front of U.S. District Judge Joy Flowers Conti. In connection with the guilty plea, the court was advised that Toski knowingly caused the transmission of a program, information, code or command, and as a result of such conduct, intentionally caused damage, without authorization, to a protected computer. A resident of Willett Road in Baldwin Borough has pleaded guilty in federal court to a charge of violating federal child sexual exploitation laws, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney David J. Hickton on Thursday. Jerrold Brassart, 60, of 4043 Willett, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge David Stewart Cercone to one count of possessing and accessing with intent to view visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. In connection with the guilty plea, the court was advised that Brassart committed the crime between Aug. 15, 2011, and Oct. 26, 2011. He was indicted by a federal grand jury later that year. Chief U.S. District Judge Gary L. Lancaster has sentenced Tara Gibson, 42, of 210 Revo Rd. in north Baldwin Borough, to six months of imprisonment, followed by six months of home detention and three years of supervised release on her conviction of embezzlement from Saint Albert the Great Federal Credit Union. From in or around January 2007 and continuing through December 2007, Gibson embezzled approximately $85,241 from the credit union, where she was the manager, according to U.S. Attorney David J. Hickton. Assistant U.S. Attorney Shaun E. Sweeney prosecuted the Gibson case on behalf of the government. The Joint Terrorism Task Force is investigating 16 bomb threats made on Pitt's campus in the past month.
The FBI is asking for the public's help as investigators try to find who is initiating numerous bomb threats made on the University of Pittsburgh's campus over the past month. David J. Hickton, who is the U.S. attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania, said that the safety of students, staff and faculty at Pitt are "a top priority" and that investigators are working aggressively to stop the multiple bomb threats that are becoming a daily occurrence. Hickton said that Pitt police and the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Forces are "actively pursuing the source or sources of (the) threats," but he would not expand on any leads that investigators might have. Twenty people from three states have been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on charges of violating federal narcotics and money laundering laws, according to U.S. Attorney David J. Hickton. The four-count indictment, returned on March 28, named Dennis Haenze, 56, of 1492 Cathell Road in Baldwin Borough, as one of the 20 defendants. According to the indictment, the defendants, who hail from Pennsylvania, Maryland and California, are charged with participating in a 10-year-long conspiracy to distribute cocaine and launder monetary instruments.
