'Wash Out Repair' Coming to Weyman Road

PennDOT crews will be back for more on the popular Whitehall street.

Crews from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 11-0 will cause temporary lane closures and restrictions for "wash out repair" on Weyman Road in Whitehall Borough from March 11 to 15, at the least. The work will run from Provost Road to Kay Drive—an approximately 0.66-mile stretch. Motorists are advised to use caution, slow down and expect changing traffic patterns when traveling through the work area. Generally speaking, "wash out repair" aims to solidify the shoulder of a road that is "washed out" or undercut, typically by water damage. RESUMED: Curry Hollow Road Bridge Work

The work is part of a $5.6-million project to replace a bridge on Curry Hollow near Sheetz.

Work on a $5.6-million project to replace a bridge on Curry Hollow Road in Pleasant Hills Borough resumed on Friday, March 1, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 11-0. Traffic is being reduced to a single, 10-foot wide lane in each direction between Route 51 (Clairton Boulevard) and Keeport Drive, and the restrictions will remain in place around-the-clock through mid-November. The project includes replacing an existing three-span encased I-beam bridge over railroad tracks just west of Arbor Lane (next to Sheetz) and east of Jefferson Memorial Cemetery and Funeral Home with a single-span adjacent box beam structure. Work Coming to Route 51 Wednesday, Thursday

Temporary lane closures and restrictions are expected in our area.

Crews from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 11-0 will cause temporary lane closures and restrictions for pavement core drilling across a large part of Route 51 on Wednesday and Thursday nights, weather permitting. Restrictions will occur as needed on both nights from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. The work is needed for future improvements. The work will stretch from Fidelity Drive in south Baldwin Borough to Stewart Avenue on the border of Whitehall Borough and Pittsburgh's Overbrook neighborhood—an approximately 3.1-mile stretch that runs north from Baldwin through Whitehall through Brentwood Borough and through Whitehall again. PA American Water Project Coming to Gardenville Road

During construction, customers might experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water and/or lower-than-normal water pressure.

Over the next several months, crews from the Pennsylvania American Water Company will replace more than 5 miles of aging water main in the Pittsburgh area, including a stretch along Gardenville Road in Bethel Park and south Baldwin Borough, to improve service reliability and improve fire protection for residents. The combined cost of these system improvements is approximately $7 million, according to a news release from the water company. During construction, customers might experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water and/or lower-than-normal water pressure. EXTENDED: Pothole Patching on Route 51

The work will run from the West End Bridge to Curry Hollow Road.

For the second time in a month, crews from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 11-0 will cause temporary lane closures and restrictions for pothole patching across a large part of Route 51. The patching, which will run from the West End Bridge to Curry Hollow Road, will last from Jan. 7 to 25, at the least. That is an approximately 8.7-mile stretch. The work will occur in various locations across the busy state road, possibly hitting the Pittsburgh neighborhoods of West End, Duquesne Heights, Beechview, Mount Washington, Beltzhoover, Bon Air, Brookline, Carrick and/or Overbrook, and/or the boroughs of Whitehall, Brentwood and/or Baldwin. The milling, which will run from Delwar Road in West Mifflin Borough to the Glenwood Interchange area on the border of north Baldwin Borough and Pittsburgh's Hays neighborhood, will last from Jan. 22 to 25, at the least. That is an approximately 2-mile stretch. Milling occurs when an existing road surface is removed, exposing the road's base. I am completely baffled by this. It was paved only a couple of years ago and is probably one of the better surfaces around the area not counting a few places where the water company dug up. I guess pen dot had some money to waste since they don't spend money on salting it when it snows.   more ›

North Baldwin travelers beware.

Crews from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 11-0 will cause single-lane closures (as needed) on Route 885 in the Glenwood Interchange area from 8 p.m. on Friday to 8 a.m. on Saturday in order to repair a bridge, weather permitting. That bridge carries Route 885 over the ramp that connects westbound Route 837 (Riverton Street) to East Carson Street on the border of north Baldwin Borough and Pittsburgh's Hays and New Homestead neighborhoods. PennDOT's crews will be repairing holes in the bridge deck, and while work occurs on the overhead bridge, the ramp beneath the structure that connects westbound Route 837 to East Carson Street will be closed.
