Whitehall Man Arrested for DUI (Underage) in Baldwin

Charges for Whitehall, Baldwin Township Men A Baldwin Borough police officer approached a motorist stopped in a driveway along the 600 block of Charlotte Drive at around 2 p.m. on Saturday for almost causing an accident near that driveway, according to a police report. The officer reported smelling alcohol coming from the vehicle of the driver—Christopher James Laplace, 20, of Glowood Drive in Whitehall Borough—who said that he was visiting a friend on Charlotte. Laplace, who was joined by four other people in his vehicle, later changed his story and said that he was dropping people off at the Charlotte driveway, the officer reported. But another person in the vehicle said that Laplace panicked and simply pulled into the driveway to avoid …

Two Baldwin Men Charged in Connection with DUI Incident

Two Baldwin Men Charged in Connection with DUI Incident A Baldwin Borough police officer stopped motorist Aaron Robert Sohl, 31, of Churchview Avenue in Baldwin Borough, at around 12:54 a.m. on Thursday for failing to obey a stop sign at the intersection of Churchview and Willett Road, according to a police report. That intersection is on the border of Baldwin and Brentwood boroughs. The officer reported smelling alcohol while talking with Sohl and put him through field-sobriety and breath-analyzer tests, which he failed. He was arrested and taken to the Baldwin police station, where he twice failed additional breath-analyzer tests before being taken home and released. Driver Stopped, Asleep in Middle of Becks Run Road

And another incident from north Baldwin in these police stories from the past week.

Driver Asleep on Becks Run Road A Baldwin Borough police officer found the driver of an SUV stopped in the middle of Becks Run Road and asleep with his foot on the vehicle's brake. The incident occurred while the SUV was facing west in Baldwin's 600 block of Becks Run at around 2:49 a.m. on Thursday, according to a police report. The vehicle's engine was running, it was in gear, and its headlights were on. But the driver—Mario Joseph Germany, 24, of Cedricton Street in Pittsburgh's Carrick neighborhood—did not wake up until another police officer arrived at the scene, entered Germany's passenger's-side door, put the vehicle in park and turned off its engine. Baldwin Stabbing Case Takes Very Strange Turn—Away from Baldwin

The 'Fats'/'Pat' incident is now believed to have happened in Carrick.

UPDATE: The owner of Shawn Ryan's Pub said that he has reviewed security tapes from the night of the incident and that no one fitting the description of the alleged attacker was in his bar. Baldwin Borough police Chief Michael Scott said that a case involving a local stabbing this past Tuesday has moved in a different direction—specifically, away from Baldwin Borough. Initially, Baldwin police had been told that a man known as either "Fats" or "Pat" had stabbed a Whitehall Borough resident as the victim and the victim's girlfriend were leaving Hog's Bar & Grill on Prospect Road in Baldwin. "(The victim's) girlfriend I guess got into an argument with (the attacker) in the bar," Scott said on Oct. 9. "Over what? We don't know." But the story…

Car Over Hillside Along Glass Run Nets DUI Arrest

Car Over Hillside Nets DUI Arrest Baldwin Borough police officers went to a home on Glass Run Road at around 10:42 p.m. on Thursday for a report of a vehicle driving in the home's yard. The vehicle—a red 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix—had entered the yard from Cathell Road, gone down a hillside on the home's property and collided with a tree, according to a police report. The vehicle was unoccupied when the officers arrived at the scene, and its engine was still running. Officers checked the contents of the vehicle and found two cans of Miller Lite and a debit card with the name "Brian Bernthaler" on it. The vehicle was also registered in Bernthaler's name. Officers from the Mt. Oliver Police Department went to Bernthaler's address on Brownsville…

Police: Heroin Found by K-9, Remnant City Burglarized and More

Heroin Found by K-9 on Spring Valley Drive A Whitehall Borough police officer monitoring traffic in the 5300 block of Spring Valley Drive stopped a vehicle for speeding at around 9:55 a.m. on Monday, Whitehall police Chief Donald R. Dolfi said. As the officer interacted with the speeding driver—Paul Howard Schuetz, 29, of 243 Whitehaven Dr. in Richland Township—Schuetz appeared nervous and fidgety, Dolfi said. The officer then noticed an orange needle cap beneath Schuetz's seat, which he reported that Schuetz was trying to conceal. Unluckily for Schuetz, the officer had a K-9 unit available and used the dog to search for and locate heroin and drug paraphernalia in Schuetz's vehicle. Spencer United Methodist Church Celebrates 175 Years

'Open Hearts, Open Minds and Open Doors.'

Located just over the northwestern border of Baldwin Borough, the Spencer United Methodist Church has been serving area residents for a memorable 175 years. And to celebrate that anniversary, the church will host a special two-hour worship session on Sunday, Sept. 16, starting at 10 a.m. at its location on Spencer Avenue in Pittsburgh's Carrick neighborhood. The worship will include guest speakers and will be followed by an open house featuring finger foods, a photo display and activites for children. There is no cost.
