Observing Passover in Baldwin-Whitehall: What You Need to Know

Here is a list of resources, events and services in honor of the Jewish observance.

It's almost time to break out the matzo. Passover arrives on March 25 this year, when Jews across the world will come together to retell the Exodus story over four cups of wine (or grape juice for those who can't indulge), and of course, a large, festive feast. Passover Traditions As the story goes, during their flight from slavery, the Jews did not have enough time for their dough to rise, resulting in a flaky cracker that is eaten instead of bread for a full week during Passover. The diet changes go beyond bread, however, and depend on family tradition. Wednesday's Powerball a Record $500 Million (or More) Jackpot

Where to buy a Powerball ticket in Baldwin-Whitehall and the odds of winning the jackpot.

The historic Powerball jackpot rose to a record $500 million on Tuesday, and many Baldwin-Whitehall residents are expected to purchase a ticket on Wednesday—if they haven't already. According to this Pennsylvania Lottery Web page, there are quite a few places to purchase a Powerball ticket in Baldwin-Whitehall. There has been no Powerball winner since Oct. 6. The chance of winning the $500 million jackpot is 1 in 175,223,510. The Powerball is drawn every Wednesday and Saturday night at 10:59 p.m. Ticket sales are cut off at least 59 minutes before the draw. Each ticket costs $2. Good luck. Visions for Vacancies: What Could Fill a Need at Brownsville Plaza?

Bottom Dollar Food opened in the Brownsville Plaza in south Baldwin Borough in January, occupying 24,141 square feet of once-vacant space and joining Dave's Terrace Bakery (3,271 square feet), Dr. Howard S. Pittle (3,184) and Sargo's Barber Shop (613) as plaza tenants. Kinesis Physical Therapy then opened in August and put 2,148 more square feet to good use. At some point, Boost Mobile also came along and leased 843 square feet of plaza space. But as of Nov. 1, the Brownsville Plaza still has one vacant storefront—a 2,725-square-foot spot situated nicely at the building's front-right corner.
