Amanda Krull, 23, is known to frequent Whitehall, Brentwood, Carrick and Brookline.
Pittsburgh police and other local law agencies are looking for a South Hills woman accused of theft and writing bad checks. And her name may be very familiar to Baldwin-Whitehall folks. Amanda Krull, 23, who, while a Brentwood Borough resident in April, was charged by Whitehall Borough police with one count each of theft by deception, prohibited acts in charitable solicitation and soliciting without a permit, is currently wanted by the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, West Mifflin Borough police and the Allegheny County Sheriff's Office. According to a report by Pittsburgh police Zone 6 detectives, Krull has multiple prior arrests for theft-related crimes, including going door-to-door to collect money for a fake charity, as was the case in …

Molchany represents part of Whitehall Borough and all of Baldwin Township.
Erin Molchany began her first term as a state representative on New Year's Day with a swearing-in ceremony at the state Capitol in Harrisburg. Molchany, a Democrat who bested Republican Chris Cratsley in November's general election, will represent Pennsylvania's 22nd House District, which includes part of Whitehall Borough and all of Baldwin Township. In a statement released on Tuesday, Molchany said that there is much to be done in her district and that the opportunity to speak for that community is humbling. "As I have done before, I again pledge tireless dedication and my deepest commitment to serving everyone in my district," she said. "There is so much to do. I'll be there with you and hope you'll be there with me." In addition to …

Bob Downey takes that post on Jan. 14.
Although he plans to remain on the Baldwin Township Board of Commissioners, Baldwin Township resident Bob Downey will resign as the chief of police at California University of Pennsylvania to become the newest chief of the Green Tree Borough Police Department on Jan. 14. The Green Tree Council officially selected Downey, 56, on Monday night from a field of 41 applicants, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Baldwin Township residents elected Downey, a Democrat from Crestline Drive, to a four-year term on their board of commissioners in November 2011. Downey first joined the board as an appointee in May 2009 to fill a vacancy before being elected that fall to fill a two-year term. He was born and raised in Pittsburgh's North Side area, but …

The mother said that her daughter had been abducted on the South Side, but later, the mother's boyfriend confessed to burying the toddler in Brookline.
The image of a little girl on a grocery shopping trip with her mother—then, suddenly, gone ... That's what many folks imagined in March of 1982, when Melody Childs Thomas told police that her daughter, Nicole Lynn Bryner, 3, had been abducted from a shopping cart at the Giant Eagle supermarket on the South Side of Pittsburgh. Though there were extensive searches, no trace of Nicole was ever found. Then, in 1986, Timothy Widman, Childs Thomas' boyfriend at the time, allegedly confessed that he had punched Bryner, accidentally killing her. He told police that he and Childs Thomas buried the body in a wooded area along Timberland Avenue in Pittsburgh's Brookline neighborhood. Police searched unsuccessfully for the body. Without it, …

A man is charged again with doing something for the second time in just over a year.
A man with a history of stealing from the Giant Eagle in Whitehall Borough's Caste Village is charged with doing the same thing again after he led police from Whitehall and Castle Shannon boroughs, and Bethel Park, on a search for him through Whitehall on Saturday. Brenton Fawcett, 37, of 353 Brookline Blvd., was arrested that day and taken to the Allegheny County Jail on charges of robbery, receiving stolen property, retail theft and defiant trespass for stealing DVDs and other merchandise from Giant Eagle at around 1:03 p.m., Whitehall police Chief Donald R. Dolfi said. (UPDATE: The robbery charge was withdrawn on Nov. 13.) Dolfi explained that the trespass charge stems from a restriction placed on Fawcett from entering that Giant Eagle …

Incident occurred on Friday night, Oct. 5.
A Baldwin Township police officer stopped motorist Todd Rebholz, 39, of Chelton Avenue in Pittsburgh's Brookline neighborhood, for failing to obey a stop sign at the intersection of Dewalt Drive and Highview Road at around 9:11 p.m. on Oct. 5, police Chief Terrence P. O'Brien said. According O'Brien, the officer smelled alcohol coming from Rebholz's breath. Rebholz then failed field-sobriety tests and was arrested and taken to St. Clair Hospital for a blood test—results pending—before being released.
