Whitehall AutoZone Employee Charged with Stealing from Work

And three other stories in these borough police notes.

AutoZone Employee Charged with Retail Theft Police officers went to the AutoZone on Route 51 in Whitehall Borough at around 11:50 a.m. on Thursday to speak with the store's loss prevention officer, according to Whitehall police Chief Donald R. Dolfi. The loss prevention officer informed police that an employee of the store—Danielle Hibbs, 36, of 2089 Plainview Ave. in Pittsburgh's Brookline neighborhood—was caught taking money from the store's register and stealing merchandise, Dolfi said. The approximate value of the cash and merchandise taken was $87. The theft occurred across numerous incidents during an unspecified period of time, but "it came to a head" on Thursday, Dolfi said. Little Girl's Disappearance Still Unsolved 50 Years Later

Mary Ann Verdecchia's disappearance rocked the Pittsburgh area in 1962.

One of the oldest and most memorable missing person cases in southwestern Pennsylvania is that of Mary Ann Verdecchia, who disappeared from Pittsburgh's Bloomfield neighborhood on June 7, 1962. The 10-year-old had lived with her aunt in the five years after her parents separated. She had returned home after a half-day of classes at Immaculate Conception School, changed out of her school uniform and went outside at about 12:30 p.m. Witnesses saw Mary Ann go into the Martinique Apartments along Baum Boulevard. A woman resident for whom she ran errands sent her to the store. She was seen going back into the apartments at about 2:45 p.m. That was the last reported sighting of her. At about 6 p.m., Mary Ann's relatives began looking for her. …

'Emmy' Has Been Found

She had been missing since Tuesday afternoon.

UPDATE (Friday, 2:25 p.m.): Emmy has been found.  ... The owners of a dog recently rescued from a shelter tell Patch that the dog ran away from her new home in Whitehall Borough on the border of Bethel Park and south Baldwin Borough at around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday and that the dog is still missing as of early Friday. The dog's name is "Emmy," but because she was in a shelter for quite some time, she is shy and does not know her name very well. Some reports have Emmy as recently being seen in the areas of Provost and Weyman roads in Whitehall and across Route 88 in Castle Shannon Borough toward Wabash Avenue and Killarney Drive (near Baldwin Township). Other reports put Emmy in the area of Dormont Borough and Pittsburgh's Brookline …

I was there. In fact, I agree that no one should have been drinking. I don't believe that people should drink around kids, as my own personal value system. That is why I stated that in a previous comment. All I was saying is I know that the fights were protecting the children and in my eyes that doesn't make them idiots. It makes me grateful that there are still people that would put themselves …   more ›

Probation?!? What about the rights of the car owner, what break did they get? Cleaning up and paying for the damage the would-be-thief made! Community service and restitution should have been ordered!! We law-abiding residents who PAY with our hard earned money for our vehicles and insurance deserve better! The police did their job, it's about time the magistrate does theirs!   more ›

Vigil Held in Memory of Karissa Kunco

Family and friends gathered in Brookline to remember Kunco, a Baldwin Borough resident who was killed last year.

It has been one year since the death of a young woman who friends say could light up a room with her smile. On Saturday evening, as they did a year ago, friends and family of Karissa Marie Kunco, who had been residing in Baldwin Borough with her father before she died, gathered at the cannon monument on Brookline Boulevard to remember her. "We're trying to do more on the positive side," said Kunco's aunt, Debbie Ryce. "A year ago today, God received an angel in heaven. We're here to keep her memory alive and be her voice and spread the message against domestic violence." Kunco was reported missing on Jan. 11, 2012, when she failed to meet a friend in Castle Shannon Borough to go tanning. Her body was found one day later in a heavily wooded…
