WATCH: Brave Souls Take the 'Plunge' for Brentwood-Baldwin-Whitehall

Volunteers raise funds for area development by jumping into the Mon' River as part of the annual Pittsburgh Polar Plunge.

Hundreds of Pittsburghers successively broke the world's 3-meter doggypaddle record on New Year's Day after braving 36-degree temperatures to jump into the Monongahela River. And nearly 30 of those record-breakers were community leaders and volunteers from Brentwood, Baldwin and Whitehall boroughs. The Brentwood-Baldwin-Whitehall folks, headed by John F. Slater—owner of the John F. Slater Funeral Home in Brentwood and the board chair of Economic Development South—accepted sponsorships of varying amounts to make good on their promise of arctic swimming. Support/Participate in Brentwood-Baldwin-Whitehall's Polar Plunge

Take part in a great cause on New Year's Day.

If you can think of a better way to support development projects in Brentwood, Baldwin and Whitehall boroughs, please let us know. But for now, we're jumping into the Mon'. Baldwin-Whitehall Patch Editor Bob Healy—that's me—will join the crazy folks from the Brentwood-Baldwin-Whitehall Chamber of Commerce, the Brentwood Business Owners Association, Economic Development South and the Brentwood Park Initiative in a New Year's Day Polar Plunge into the Monongahela River. Participants—open to all people—will try to raise funds by obtaining sponsors for their 9:30 a.m. plunges that day.
