'The street is dark.' - Dave Brogan, Meadowcrest Road
Residents from close, parallel streets in south Baldwin Borough didn't plan to show up at Tuesday night's regular Baldwin Council meeting with the same complaint, they said. It just worked out that way. The complaint: It's too dark in Baldwin. Speaking to the council first during public-comments time was Sandra Beyer of Blossom Drive. This marked Beyer's third time in front of the council since June regarding the topic of streetlights reduction in Baldwin, including the elimination of 11 lights on Blossom. On Tuesday, Beyer pointed out that multiple homes in her 600 block of Blossom, where at least two of three scheduled light-eliminations have been completed, have been victimized recently by burglaries. Baldwin police Chief Michael Scott …

Is there a need for armed guards at local schools?
In Case of Emergency ... The topic of school safety dominated discussions on Wednesday night at the first Baldwin-Whitehall School Board meeting since a gunman killed 20 children and six adults at an elementary school in Newtown, CT, in mid-December. Multiple school board members, the district superintendent, a student board representative and a vocal member of the public each spoke on the issue, and the theme was constant: Baldwin-Whitehall, like all school districts, is vulnerable to attack. "I don't know how anybody can fight against a military assault rifle," school board President Nancy Sciulli DiNardo said toward the end of Wednesday's meeting before also saying that school district officials "need to do everything we can within the…

Police Chief Scott warns against unlocked windows and doors.
Multiple residents of the 600 block of Blossom Drive in south Baldwin Borough have, in the past month, reported being victims of home burglaries, Baldwin police Chief Michael Scott confirmed on Monday. Neighbors have informed the Baldwin-Whitehall Patch of the burglaries and are warning fellow residents of south Baldwin and nearby Bethel Park to lock their windows and doors. Scott expressed the same warning and said that Baldwin police have identified a person of interest in their investigation of the burglaries—an adult male. That person of interest lives in an unvictimized home in the same block of Blossom. Police were able to track footprints from one of the victimized homes to the person of interest's home, Scott said, but the victims …

Leftovers from Tuesday night's Baldwin Council meeting.
Triangle Pet Control Services Contract Ended By a unanimous vote on Tuesday night, the Baldwin Council officially ended Baldwin Borough's contract with Triangle Pet Control Services, which was shut down by officials from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture on Oct. 1 after it allegedly defrauded the state by getting paid for services that it didn't perform. Baldwin Borough has been without animal control services throughout October as a result of the shutdown. On Oct. 2, borough Manager John Barrett said that Baldwin officials will "have to figure something out" in order to replace Triangle Pet. Borough Will Soon Stop Paying for Trash Collection at Apartments By another unanimous vote, the Baldwin Council agreed to have …
