Baldwin Twp. Officials Say More Fire Support Is Needed

And other notes from Tuesday night's township commissioners meeting, including a 2013 millage update.

Local Fire Crew in Need of More Support John Paravati used Tuesday night's Baldwin Township Board of Commissioners meeting to call for more support of the Castle Shannon Volunteer Fire Department, which services Baldwin Township. "The money's down with fundraising," said Paravati, a township commissioner and also its fire company Chair. "The carnival isn't doing as much as it used to. Bingo is suffering from the casinos. Equipment costs are going up." Combined with all of that, Paravati said, the fire department just purchased a new ladder truck for approximately $1 million. Concert & Dinner Benefit, Easter Celebration and More from Baldwin Twp.

Concert & Dinner Benefit for Cancer Fight Baldwin Township Commissioner John Paravati promoted a special fundraiser during Tuesday night's township Board of Commissioners meeting. The fundraiser is a dinner and concert event on March 9 to benefit Carol Reffner, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2012. Carol is the wife of Castle Shannon Volunteer Fire Department Chief Bill Reffner. (Castle Shannon Fire services Baldwin Township.) Tickets to the event, which will be held at the fire department's station along Route 88 (3600 Library Rd., Pittsburgh, PA 15234), cost $20 each and include a buffet-style pasta dinner and performances by local country/rock bands The Hills and Johnny Miller & The Back Sliding Fools.
