Mr. Fullerton, I commend you vehemently. Rather than play the proverbial “criminal lying game”, you admitted to recently drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana. Good for you to recognize that your goose had been cooked (if I may be so bold). This reminds me of the time that Uncle Helix was so inebriated, we were able to make him admit that he wears lady pants. Haha…lol….never again did he drink …   more ›

B-W Trivia: Which Decade Is This Picture From?

We will reveal the answer on Monday.

The Baldwin-Whitehall Patch has partnered with the Baldwin Historical Society to bring you a weekly trivia question that delves into our area's colorful past. Pat Lombardi and Patty Woehler, co-presidents of the society, generously write the questions and provide the pictures. Here is this week's question: This is a picture of the parlor of the Butterwicks, who lived at the bottom of Becks Run Road. The Butterwicks are Chuck Page's great-grandparents. Page is the owner of Page's Dairy Mart at the corner of Becks Run and East Carson Street. Notice the leather chairs, rocker, sofa, gas heater in front of the fireplace and gas light toward the right of the picture. Which decade do you think that this picture is from? Read other Baldwin-…

EVENING RUSH: Roads Are Clear in Baldwin-Whitehall

As of 4 p.m., the normal trouble spots are untroubled. There is a short delay on East Willock Road, however.

A day after the Pittsburgh area received the worst part of its share of Hurricane Sandy, the oft-flooded roads in and around Baldwin-Whitehall are clear in time for Tuesday's evening rush hour. I drove around some of these troubled spots—Streets Run, Glass Run, Becks Run, McNeilly and East Willock roads—and the Route 51-Route 88 intersection, from 3 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, and all are very navigable, according at least to this writer. There is some standing water, of course, on Streets Run Road, especially near Chapon's Greenhouses, but the road is not closed and is safe to use (in my opinion). There is a short delay in the 5000 block of East Willock Road in Baldwin Borough, as workers are repairing a busted a water line. Check back with the…

One Man's Account of Baldwin-Whitehall Roads

Nothing is closed as of 8 p.m., but avoid standing water.

UPDATE (8:50 p.m., Monday): County Executive Rich Fitzgerald's office is reporting that Streets Run Road has flooded near Chapon's Greenhouses. Some of the roads in Baldwin-Whitehall typically closed due to flooding—Streets Run, Glass Run, Becks Run, McNeilly and East Willock—and the Route 51-Route 88 intersection, are all open and functioning fine as of 8 p.m. on Monday, according at least to this writer. Make no mistake; the roads are wet, and in some cases, have standing water on them. But they are very navigable, and the waterways running alongside them are raging. Yet, they are not overflowing. Please use caution, as this article is merely my own opinion. But from around 6:30 to 8, I drove around the aforementioned areas with no …
