It would seem to me the our elected officials are ducking their responsibilities! Instead of trying to make society more livable for the people, such as finding ways for folks to have a better quality of life, they would rather waste taxpayers money on ways to destroy the liberty and freedom this nation is supposed to represent. End the need for war, and create a better way of life for all men …   more ›

Ok maybe it has not happened in a unit you served in and it has not happened in my dept BUT I was referring to the military in general. I do not have time to research but I am sure there are incidents of "accidents" involving firearms. Yes muzzle discipline is crucial and the finger should be off trigger until ready to fire but again during "tense, uncertain rapidly evolving situations" these "…   more ›

Baldwin Manager Urges Duquesne Light to Pursue LED Technology

Also, the mayor is asked about Sgt. Miller, and news regarding a Kurt Hinish fundraiser.

How Are Those Lights Coming? Baldwin Borough Manager John Barrett said at Tuesday night's Baldwin Council meeting that he continues to urge Duquesne Light officials to investigate the possibility of installing LED lights in Baldwin. However, Duquesne Light, which owns the borough's streetlights, still does not have an LED lighting option ready for Baldwin in order to help the borough to save on energy costs. In 2012, Baldwin officials gave Duquesne Light the go-ahead to eliminate more than 27 percent of the borough's streetlights (all non-LED) in order to save money. Barrett said that he wrote a letter to Duquesne Light saying, essentially, "In our opinion, nothing's been done." Baldwin Mayor Alexander R. Bennett Jr. suggested that perhaps…

Like I said way earlier, this is a list of DUI arrest matters, not ALL arrests or all police action. If you recall, DUIs used to be published in the Pittsburgh papers. Now they seem to be published on the internet. Has NOTHING to do with what the sum total of the actions of our police force are.   more ›

Baldwin Council Meets with Police Chief to Discuss Personnel

Public Safety Chair Larry Brown says that the council will not intervene with Chief Scott's investigation of a Sunday morning shooting. Scott reveals more details of the incident.

The start of Tuesday night's Baldwin Borough Council meeting was delayed by about 10 minutes to allow the Baldwin Council to finish another meeting with borough police Chief Michael Scott. The chief's private meeting with Baldwin's elected officials was to discuss personnel, borough Manager John Barrett said. The meeting comes less than three days after a Sunday morning shooting at a home on Elmwood Drive in the central part of the borough left one Baldwin police officer—Sgt. Ralph Miller—with gunshot wounds in his hip/lower back area. Miller was shot twice by a fellow Baldwin officer, Allegheny County police Superintendent Charles Moffatt said at news conference on Sunday following the incident. Baldwin Man Arrested at Sunoco/APlus on Route 51 in Whitehall

Also, a 10-year-old is charged with stealing a fire extinguisher, and one other Whitehall police story from this past week.

Public Drunkenness Charge After Police Claim Disobedience A Whitehall Borough police officer on patrol stopped at the Sunoco/APlus gas station and convenience store along Route 51 at around 12:53 a.m. on Friday. When the officer walked into the store, he observed a man arguing with a clerk in what appeared to be an intoxicated state, Whitehall police Deputy Chief Richard M. Danko said. The officer advised the man—John Mallon Kearns, 21, of 541 Elaine Dr. in Baldwin Borough—not to get into his car in his current condition and drive away, but Kearns responded to the officer with vulgarity and dismissiveness, Danko said, and tried to get into his car anyway. The officer prevented Kearns from doing so and arrested him in the store's parking …
