A suspect has been arrested.
Allegheny County police Lt. Andrew Schurman told WPXI that Baldwin Borough police found a 24-year-old man who was shot in the head at a home in the 3400 block of Brickley Drive in north Baldwin early on Tuesday morning. The man is expected to survive the shooting, and Schurman told the TV news station that police arrested a suspect in the incident at the same house where the shooting occurred. William Murphy III remains in jail and charged with an array of offenses.
William Joseph Murphy III, who has been charged with multiple counts of burglary, criminal trespassing, theft and receiving stolen property stemming from late 2012 and early 2013 incidents, is facing a non-jury trial that starts on May 16, according to an online docket sheet. The alleged south Baldwin Borough burglar remains in the Allegheny County Jail on $50,000 bail. Officers from multiple police departments detained Murphy at a Blossom Drive home on Jan. 4 as part of a burglary investigation in the area, according to Baldwin police Chief Michael Scott. A pretrial conference awaits William Joseph Murphy III, the alleged south Baldwin Borough burglar who remains in the Allegheny County Jail, according to an online docket sheet. Murphy, who has been charged with multiple counts of burglary, criminal trespassing, theft and receiving stolen property stemming from late 2012 and early 2013 incidents, will have a pretrial conference at the Allegheny County Courthouse on April 26—the result of his March 18 formal arraignment. The suspect who allegedly shut a door on Baldwin Borough police officers, leading to one officer's rifle going off and firing two shots into a police sergeant's back, remains in the Allegheny County Jail after waiving his preliminary hearing last week, according to an online docket sheet. Meantime, Baldwin Mayor Alexander R. Bennett Jr. is reviewing an internal investigation of the incident that included a firearms review, interviews with police officers and an Allegheny County police investigation, to determine if any action should be taken on his part, according to a Pittsburgh Tribune-Review report. Baldwin Borough Manager John Barrett said at Tuesday night's Baldwin Council meeting that he continues to urge Duquesne Light officials to investigate the possibility of installing LED lights in Baldwin. However, Duquesne Light, which owns the borough's streetlights, still does not have an LED lighting option ready for Baldwin in order to help the borough to save on energy costs. In 2012, Baldwin officials gave Duquesne Light the go-ahead to eliminate more than 27 percent of the borough's streetlights (all non-LED) in order to save money. Multiple groups have organized a blood drive in honor of Sgt. Ralph Miller, the Baldwin Borough police officer injured on Feb. 10 in a friendly fire incident in central Baldwin. The drive will be held at the Baldwin Borough Municipal Complex along Churchview Avenue in north Baldwin from noon to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, with donations being taken by the Central Blood Bank. Miller is well known around Baldwin Borough and its surrounding area as a child car seat inspector. Miller does not charge for that work and has been known to inspect seats for parents even on days that he is not scheduled to work. Baldwin Borough police have charged Bryan Robert Lijewski, 30, with one felony and nine misdemeanors stemming from their appearance at Lijewski's home on Elmwood Drive in central Baldwin on Feb. 10, according to an online docket sheet. Police went to Lijewski's home at 5147 Elmwood at around 4 a.m. that day in response to a domestic disturbance involving a female resident who told police that her boyfriend, who also lives at the home, was holding a gun and was threatening to harm himself, Allegheny County police Superintendent Charles Moffatt said at a news conference later that day. The start of Tuesday night's Baldwin Borough Council meeting was delayed by about 10 minutes to allow the Baldwin Council to finish another meeting with borough police Chief Michael Scott. The chief's private meeting with Baldwin's elected officials was to discuss personnel, borough Manager John Barrett said. The meeting comes less than three days after a Sunday morning shooting at a home on Elmwood Drive in the central part of the borough left one Baldwin police officer—Sgt.
