Whitehall Man Arrested on Drug Charge at 911th Airlift Wing

U.S. Air Force security smelled an odor of marijuana emanating from contractors' van.

Contractors working at the 911th Airlift Wing in Moon Township were detained by U.S. Air Force security forces on Jan. 7 and charged with drug possession. The men—48-year-old Emil Provident of Whitehall Borough (Margaret Street) and 37-year-old Robert McGrail—were charged by Moon Township police with prohibited acts after Air Force security said that the men tried to bring marijuana paraphernalia onto their base. Provident and McGrail, who are employed by a roofing contractor working for the air base, were stopped at a security gate after security smelled an odor of marijuana emanating from their van. Security then searched the vehicle and found a pipe and bags smelling like marijuana. All persons are subject to search on a military …

Whitehall's Sally Haas Remembered as Business, Community Leader

Sally Haas, president of the Pittsburgh Airport Area Chamber of Commerce, died unexpectedly on Thursday. Friends and colleagues praise her leadership.

Chip Holsworth, president of the Military Affairs Coalition of Western Pennsylvania, said that the local military advocacy group will have to search "far and wide" to find another leader like Sally Haas. Haas, the president of the Pittsburgh Airport Area Chamber of Commerce and the co-chair of its military coalition, died unexpectedly on Thursday following surgery for an undisclosed condition. She was 58 and lived in Whitehall Borough. A fixture at coalition meetings and Moon Township military community events, Haas was tireless in her efforts to stave off a potential closure of the 911th Airlift Wing in Moon, Holsworth said. "She was our most active member," Holsworth said. "It's an incredible loss." Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett, who …

Obama has not taken Pennsylvania's support for granted and has made several trips to the western Pennsylvania area in the past several years, even going as far as choosing Pittsburgh to host…

Incumbent Murphy Competing in U.S. House Race

His 18th Congressional District includes Whitehall Borough.

U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy is seeking his sixth term as the representative of the U.S. House's 18th District of Pennsylvania, which includes all of Whitehall Borough. Murphy, of Upper St. Clair Township, is being challenged for that district seat in an April 24 primary against fellow Republican Evan Feinberg, a Peters Township High School graduate who recently moved to Upper St. Clair. Feinberg is Murphy's first primary challenger since entering the U.S. House in 2002. The winner of April's primary will be the Republicans' nominee on November's ballot. The lone Democrat competing for the 18th District seat is Washington County Commissioner Lawrence Maggi, meaning that Maggi will almost certainly face either Murphy or Feinberg in November. Patch …
