Cool Springs Golf Reopens

The popular center closed suddenly in mid-March.

A drive by the Cool Springs Golf and Family Recreation Center on Hamilton Road in Bethel Park on Tuesday afternoon showed the center's miniature golf and upper driving range areas to be open for business. The lower range and batting cages were closed. The center closed suddenly in mid-March when Cool Springs senior management met with some employees to tell them they would close until—tentatively—mid-April. Bob Salera, the head professional and director of instruction at Cool Springs Golf School, said that that was the first time that Cool Springs had closed since he started working at the facility in 1997. Despite the reopening, Cool Springs' website—www.coolspringsgolfcenter.com—is out of service as of Wednesday morning.  --- Sign up for…

I believe in the impossible. If a few years ago I had been told a substitute teacher would go to a 70,000 position with no experience I'd say impossible. If I was told today a non experienced dean could receive principal papers without ever being in the classroom I'd exclaim impossible, that to is in the works. How easy it is to circumvent the rules these days. So can Baldwin have a winning …   more ›

See How This Local Boy Landed a Prom Date

The Baldwin track & field athlete had a little help from his friends.

He may not have had to go to such great lengths, but after he did, it was sure hard for her to say no. Going great lengths is nothing new for Jared Mott, though, or for his future prom date, for that matter. Both are distance runners on the Baldwin High School track & field team. And now both are headed to Baldwin's 2013 Junior Prom—together. With a little (more like a lot) of help from his teammates, Mott, an 11th-grader, asked 10th-grader Stephanie Bott to the prom during track practice on Thursday at Baldwin Stadium. Their teammates—boys and girls—spelled out the word "Prom?" on the stadium turf for an unaware Bott to see while Mott took her to the top of the stadium bleachers. Assistant Coach Jacqueline Rodgers witnessed the event and …
