Whitehall Library Recieves Distinguished Service Award

The Whitehall Public Library is very proud to announce that it is the inaugural recipient of a very distinguished library award. The Maggie Forbes Community Engagement Award, underwritten by the Jack Buncher Foundation, recognizes a library whose outstanding and significant efforts resulted in real community impact as acknowledged by the community itself. Selected institutions demonstrate extraordinary and innovative approaches to public service and exceed the expected levels of community outreach. The Whitehall Public Library was chosen by the Executive Committee of the Allegheny County Library Association’s (ACLA) Librarians Advisory Council, and was presented with a $5,000 award designated toward resources and services which further enhance community impact.

Maggie Forbes was a former Director of the Andrew Carnegie Free Library & Music Hall in Carnegie, and during her tenure there she raised $7.5 million for that landmark facility. Money was given by the Jack Buncher Foundation in her honor to ACLA, to award a designated library for distinguished service in community engagement.

The Whitehall Library truly is a community hub. We are honored to have captured the spirit that Maggie Forbes demonstrated at her library, and we are very proud to receive this special award. We recognize that there is no shortage of great public service that all county libraries consistently provide. For the Buncher Foundation to offer this opportunity to recognize, honor, and grow that service is a wonderful gift for public libraries.
