EDIT: Summer Food Service Program for Kids Offered in Dormont

SummerFood is a free breakfast, lunch and recreation program for children and youths ages 18 and younger.

The Allegheny County Department of Human Services will operate SummerFood, a free breakfast, lunch and recreation program for children and youths ages 18 and younger in economically disadvantaged communities beginning this week.

Nutritious meals for children participating in programs at Young Scholars of Western PA Charter School, located at 600 Newport Dr. in Baldwin Township, will be available for part of July. (EDIT: Due to a lack of enrollment, the program at Young Scholars was canceled this year.)

Nearby, qualifying children may receive lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Dormont Recreation Center at 1801 Dormont Ave. through Aug. 16.

For more information about the SummerFood program, call 1-800-851-3838 toll-free or visit the food assistance page on the human services department website at http://www.alleghenycounty.us/dhs/food.aspx#summerfood.
