2012 Caste Village Fireworks Info

Independence Day celebration begins at 5 p.m. on Friday. Fireworks expected at 9:30.

One of the best yearly attractions in Pittsburgh's South Hills area returns this Friday when  in hosts another Independence Day celebration, starting at 5 p.m.

Most Caste stores will be open during the celebration to sell food, refreshments and other goods, including with its famous service line, with its candy and ice cream, and many, many others.

Of course, the event also includes Caste Village's renowned free fireworks show, which is expected to start at around 9:30 p.m. Pyrotecnico has the fireworks honors this year.

Musical entertainment will also be provided all night long, including a disc jockey from 5-7 and a live band from 7-9.

As usual, area drivers should expect the closure of Village Lane, part of Grove Road from Village Lane to Baptist Road and part of Weyman Road between Village Lane and Baptist in the hours immediately before, during and immediately after the night's festivities.

The Caste Village parking lots are always packed for this event. Not only are the lots popular temporary campsites, they also offer great vantage points of the fireworks show.

Fireworks night is awful!! From an employee that works in caste, this day is the worst day ever!! Let's start with when you have to be at work at 1 that day, good luck finding a spot to park because you can't! Even at 9am you can't find a spot! Businesses hate this day due to the fact that your customers can't find parking to even come in and shop!! Parents allow their kids to run all over the parking lot and these kids run in and out of stores, causes damage and complete chaos!! Watch your kids!! O wait, they can't because they are drunk from drinking all day!! Trash is everywhere! People pick up your trash you disgusting pigs!! Then they drive home after fireworks!! Even more annoying is when you have worked all day and head to your car to leave! People parked in their chairs infront of your car, when asked to move getting yelled at because you wasted a space!! Sorry I worked all day, and had to deal with uncontrollable kids and teens, I'm really not in the mood to watch fireworks at that point!! This is NOT a FAMILY event. It's a night for underage drinking, adults drinking way to much, and causing pure chaos!!

You people seem like your so much better than everyone else on the planet. Your from Whitehall for Christ sake

Wow, fireworks are going on I presume. I am in my living room and can hear the rumbling but can't figure out if it is the thunder from the storm or the fireworks. I had to go over that way earlier to pick up something and am glad I made the decision not to try to even stay there. Right now I am saying a prayer for all of the people who had been drinking all day and more than likely should NOT be driving .. I pray that they get home safely without any problems or hurting themselves or any innocent people in their path. And I am glad I am NOT on the roads.

Concerned someone said an awning caught fire because of the fireworks, The awning is 3 stories off the ground that she says she couldn't wet down. Mother nature wet down Denice awning for her last night, so it wouldn't catch fire.
cc June 30, 2012 at 11:16 AM
concerned your an idiot, we suggest she wet her awning down, take before and after pictures, send certified letters to the company. but since she believes that the fireworks company and Armstrong restaurant is in it together to burn her awning on her home. It is the owners of Caste Village that put on the show for us every year and do a fantastic job also. Denice got her awning soaked last night by mother nature so they should of been ok.

Jo M, that is why I park my cars in my driveway and my family park in front of my home for firework night. I wouldn't leave a car on Baptist Road to begin with. We walk down to Caste Village with 2 coolers and do not have any beer in them either. Why don't you film everything your saying and then post it on youtube so you can get a million votes and then maybe Whitehall would do something about it. I have never heard of our cops even on firework night not responding to a accident where a drunk driver hit someones car. I have not read anything on here that anyone is ok for underage drinking either. Just think, Brentwood is going to be dealing with this mess next week.

Why haven't you guys deleted this person's comment? It is offensive that he or she uses our Lord's name in this way. Amazing how quickly comments are deleted or changed because they are about people on our school board that heaven forbid we might offend. This is offensive.
Jean Smith June 30, 2012 at 05:35 PM
I agree with Judith S that the comment from Shawntonio mcjenkinson is very offensive. the people from baldwin over off churchview does the same things and we don't use GOD's name in vain
Robert Edward Healy, III June 30, 2012 at 07:27 PM
Judith, I'm gonna let this one slide.

This is beautiful, ML. You are very gifted. Thank you for sharing your poem.
Jo M. July 01, 2012 at 01:00 AM
We don't really care where you are from. If the shoe fits..... Some of the people we are talking about are from Baldwin and Whitehall.
JustMe July 01, 2012 at 06:24 AM
Henry that is so funny the city is creeping into Brentwood, it already hit in North Baldwin Borough. There are two apartment complexes over in North Baldwin that is now taking Section 8 and Whitehall Place and the Residence of South Hills quit taking Section 8
Concerned July 01, 2012 at 01:33 PM
Sounds like a typical night on the South Side.
Sasafras Jackson July 01, 2012 at 07:07 PM
I thought that the last line was part of the Poem! My lack of fully understanding the english dialect has caused me once again to shame myself. My apologies to the followers.

South Side is scary at night, I picked friends up down there one night that were to drunk to drive and they called me. Never want to go there again at night.
Margaret French July 02, 2012 at 05:38 AM
cc-last night my friend said a naked woman ran past her yelling Rape and she wanted help. I think some guys were chasing her. My friend called the police. I hope they got the guys and lock them up. I haven't been down there for years other than one late afternoon coming home over the Birmingham Bridge. I will make sure I carry my gun if I have to go down there again. (even if it appalls Judy Thompson LOL)
cc July 02, 2012 at 02:16 PM
I was glad to go down and give them a ride but it is scary being in the South Side. I try to avoid that area at night. I hope that the Police were able to help the women that was yelling rape and running nude. I have heard their are a lot of rapes down in the South Side at night, but don't know if it is true or not. Margaret I carry all the time unless i'm going swimming. It is part of getting dressed every morning after I take my shower. My boss reads the Patch as he is from Whitehall too and I told him as much as he does. He was shocked when I told him that I known he was carrying for years.

Wait a cotton-pickin' minute here! Are you saying you want the NANNY STATE BIG GUBBERMINT to step in and help you when you or somebody you like feel wronged by a neighbor? Are you thinking, "Well, isn't that why I pay my taxes? Elect those public officials?" But YOUR government is only there to help with the things that bother YOU, right? But if that same elderly couple had respiratory problems or cardiovascular disease that was aggravated by the smoke from YOUR BACKYARD FIRE PIT, and the old girl called the cops for assistance because she was too timid to confront you and all your friends because you're so popular and everybody comes to sit in YOUR backyard while she and her husband are alone with the windows closed...or, OMG, they went to COUNCIL to try to get relief via ordinance, well, now, girls! Now that's just TOO MUCH NANNY STATE GUBBERMINT!!!! People should shut up, stay inside with their windows closed 24/7 and let YOU have YOUR fun!!!!!!! That's the PROPER role of gubbermint! Ain't dat what da FOUNDING FATHERS SAID???? Now I understand.
nofire pitts July 13, 2012 at 02:13 AM
"I guess if anyone is strongly bothered by the WOOD SMOKE being close to COMING INSIDE their home/PROPERTY LINE, they could make plans to be out somewhere else that night." ....OH, SHUT THEIR WINDOWS!!!! BE IMPRISONED IN THEIR OWN HOUSE!!!! "Margaret I agree with you there, some think they are entitled to..." SMOKE UP THE WHOLE NEIGHBORHOOD FROM THEIR FIRE PIT!!!!!
nofire pitts July 13, 2012 at 02:24 AM
Hey, Denice, maybe you should just shut your windows and shut up, huh? The really popular people want what they want! If this bothers you it's your problem and nobody likes you anyhow! Or maybe you're just NUTS! Seriously, that's NOT what I think at all, Denice. I'm truly sorry for what happened to your property. Some people can spell certain words, but when it comes to seeing things from another's perspective, well, gee! Their minds just don't work that way! I hate wood smoke coming over to my house from neighbors' fire pits making me SICK! But the oh-so-popular neighbors who sit around the fire with all their friends in the backyard all spring, summer and fall think I am the problem here!
nofire pitts July 13, 2012 at 02:56 AM
See, Shawn, these here folks, they aksed their lawd about fire pits. They said, "Lawd, we got dis here nasty old lady, sick and miserable all de time and evryting. She nasty, Lawd!" Then they aksed him, "Lawdy, WWJD?" And their lawd answered unto them, "Smoke 'em if ya got 'em!" So they just KNEW that smokin' out that sick old lady that nobody on the street likes anyway was the will of their Lawd, Shawntonio! See, these here folks done been SAVED! He protects their houses from fireworks, too, Shawn. Think about dat! And get right wit de lawd!
nofire pitts July 13, 2012 at 03:05 AM
Pssst: Shawntonio! The proper spelling is "chrissakes!" These people around here even know how to spell "chaos" properly! They be real high class X-tians!
Margaret French July 13, 2012 at 03:30 PM
no firepitts- btw, pits is one "t". I can tell by reading your posts that I have a lot more class than you.
nofire pitts July 14, 2012 at 02:17 AM
Yowzah, Mizz Maggie. Praise de lawd! ;-)
Margaret French July 14, 2012 at 02:25 AM
you're nuts!
cc August 05, 2012 at 11:04 PM
Yep she is a nut case
Margaret French August 06, 2012 at 04:42 AM
A person only needs to see what each of these people to do know they must be crazy. With what we each see of our "crazy lady neighbor" we can safely assume she is a few fries short of a happy meal.
cc August 06, 2012 at 12:35 PM
ml think you are the crazy lady in your neighborhood, not the other cat lady that feeds them
cc August 11, 2012 at 06:19 PM
ml how many times do you have to be ignorant to people. that matt person had you tagged perfectly but to bad Bob took down his comment.
cc August 11, 2012 at 06:20 PM
your always deeming someone a crazy lady but need to go look in the mirror.
